When carrying out any type of building work, it is essential to have an experienced builder involved, this certainly applies in farm building as experience is key to providing a service to a client that may be unsure of what they want from the start.

To this end, Ballyouskill Welding Services is on the go since 1999 providing a wealth of experience and John Cahill is there since it first started out. Now running it in partnership with his son Patrick, these days the family run business provides complete agricultural solutions.

Situated in the village of Ballyouskill in Co Kilkenny, this provider of a high level of service has seen its client base grow considerably over the years as the team travel throughout Leinster and parts of Munster to carry out their work.

From design stage, to consultation, to steel fabrication, John and his team offer a turnkey service that has been met with satisfaction from his clients.

“We provide complete agricultural building solutions. The services we provide include design stage consultation, groundwork, concrete work including slatted tanks, silage slabs, handling yards, etc. All our steel is fabricated to CE approved standards as per Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Schemes (TAMS) requirement,” said John.

During his 22 years in business, John has seen many changes to the types of buildings that are being built, but he stressed that their ability to move with the times has stood them in good stead.

“We can provide a complete range of farm buildings from simple steel structures all the way up to clear span portal frame buildings, these buildings can be clad in either metal or fibre cement cladding. We can also provide a complete farm building solution including a full fit out service, steel penning, stalls and feed barriers, etc.

“One area we specialise in is dairy parlours, and since the milk quota was abolished we have done a lot of work in that area. We have constructed a number of rotary parlours across Leinster and robotic ones also.

“Times have changed, and you have to move with them. Our workshop is kitted out with the latest technology needed to carry out the work to the highest standard.”

Ballyouskill Welding Services’ reputation precedes them at this stage as John revealed they are in a position where they are busy, but always welcoming new business.

“We are fortunate in that we get the majority of our work through word of mouth and I now find that we are doing a lot of repeat work for the second generation of families that we have done work for in the past.

“We have vast experience in farm buildings throughout the country. We have full public and employer’s liability and insurance and can provide Tax compliance certification as per TAMS requirements.”

The company are there to help in any way they can and thus a customer can ask for advice on designing the building with a vast experienced team able to deal with any enquiries.

“We understand that every agricultural building is unique to each farmer’s needs. We provide intelligent quality solutions to these needs. So, if you have an idea allow us to draw on our extensive experience, ability and knowledge to help find the best solution for you,” added John.

Employing a team of ten, John admits that he has a good team around him.

“The lads are very experienced at what they do, whether it be in the workshop or on site, they carry out the work to the highest standard possible.”

Another son John, through his own company Cahill Electrical, carries out electrical work on a number of the Ballyouskill Welding Services projects.

Providing a complete range of agricultural building solutions means that Ballyouskill Welding Services construct Slatted Cattle Housing, Dairy Units, Milking Parlours – Swing, Double up & Rotary, Grain, Straw & Hay Storage Buildings, Machinery and general-purpose Buildings, Animal House Buildings – Piggery, Sheep, Beef, etc and Equestrian Buildings.

Ballyouskill Welding Services can use their wealth of experience and liaise with their trusted 3rd party design consultant to ensure all these needs are met and the new building is as productive as possible.

John admits that unlike many industries over the past 12 months, they have been fortunate workwise as they have been allowed continue working.

“With the farming sector being deemed essential, we are allowed to continue working which has been great. We are very busy at the moment and have completed a number of projects in recent times, with many more on the way.”

Ballyouskill Welding Services carry out all their work themselves with sub-contractors only used for digging tanks. The majority of their materials are bought locally from business’ like Duggan Steel, Hennessy’s Concrete, Dowling Quarries, KWS in Portlaoise, to name just a few.

All steel is CE approved and when it comes to accreditation, the company take great pride in ensuring that they are up to date with any changes in legislation or regulations.

“We do everything by the book, it’s as simple as that. The fact is that with a lot of the work being done through grants, you have to have everything in order. We have a reputable reputation, and we aim to maintain that by providing the best service possible and meeting all the demands of both the clients and the accreditors.”
