“Like a lot of other people, I found myself out of work and option number one was to head for Australia or Canada looking for a job.
“The second option was to use the small sum of money I had in the bank to buy basic equipment and set up my own business.
“I went with the latter option and was genuinely hungry for the first three Christmases after that!” he quipped, “but, thankfully, things have picked up considerably since then and business is going very well.”
TreeworX started off life as a one man operation but today has eight employees on its payroll including Ciaran’s mother Amanda (company secretary) and brother Colm (foreman). His partner Melissa Molloy is currently undergoing chainsaw training!
“Michael Monaghan brings much experience to the team and has thought us an awful lot,” Ciaran revealed. “He is in charge of maintenance and repair of machinery small and large and is an expert on the timber crane.
“Brian Reilly is a qualified chainsaw and climbing instructor. A hard worker, he helps bring on Diarmaid McCarry and Melissa Molloy, ensuring they operate and work to the highest safety standards.
“Apprentice Diarmaid McCarry is keen to learn, hard working and promising,” Ciaran, who himself works tirelessly for the family business along with Melissa, Colm and Amanda, added.
Ciaran enjoys mountaineering and rock climbing in his spare time and his hobbies led him down the tree surgery path. “I started out working as a climber and it took off from there,” he revealed.
“Our services cover all aspects of tree surgery including pruning, removal, tree inspection and assessment, stump grinding, hedge cutting and trimming and site clearance.
“Typically, we do a lot of work for local authorities as well as commercial and private clients. At present we’re working on the Centre Parks site in Longford. The hard work is really beginning to pay off as business is going very well.”
As already mentioned, TreeworX added another string to their bow in 2016 with launch of their eye catching online store and mobile app.
