Sloan Transport Ltd has been successfully trading near Dromore, Co. Down since 1971. As well as offering a wide range of transport services, the family-run business is one of the largest suppliers of agricultural bedding products in Ireland.
The Sloan name has been synonymous with animal bedding products since the 1950s when Carl Sloan started supplying sawdust and shavings to local farmers. His son William, who died tragically last December, set up what is now known as Sloan Transport, Dromara, focusing on general haulage and sawdust and shavings.
Sloan Transport is nowadays headed by Sam, Will’s brother, and Will’s three sons, Kenny, who manages the commercial workshop, repairs, servicing and PSV’s, Ali who manages sawdust and shavings, and Derek oversees the haulage with Sam. They employ 22 staff, run a modern and reliable fleet of 16 trucks and 80 trailers. The trucks, which are always immaculately turned out, are a mixture of Volvo Renault, Scania and Mercedes. The trailer fleet is made up of coil flats, curtain-siders, bulk tippers, coil Euroliners, fork-lift mounted, cutain sided carriers and extendable flat trailers.
The vehicles are regularly serviced and maintained in the company’s workshop by Kenny to ensure the wheels of the operation are always reliable and turning, with downtime kept to a minimum. The truck colours are red and white, while the trailers are silver and red.
Down through the years, Sloan Transport has shown a willingness to adapt to the specific needs of the customer and a commitment to provide a first-class and unrivalled service. Big enough to cope, small enough to care. Since 1971, the company has provided a safe, reliable and speedy haulage service for hundreds of satisfied clients. Customers consistently choose Sloan Transport because of its prompt and professional service, its wide coverage area in both Ireland the UK, its courteous drivers and staff.
