13 Jan , 2017

McCaul Dairy Services is an approved DeLaval distributor for all of Co. Cavan and  North Meath. Offering a comprehensive service to its customers, the family-run business is also an agent for Alfco automatic scrapers and cow mats as well as Cashman and Orby parlour feeders.

Established in September 2013 by Padraig McCaul who has been a milking machine technician for almost 30 years, McCaul Dairy Services supplies, installs, repairs and services dairy equipment and milking machines for farmers in the north-east region.

The company provides a complete service to the dairy farmer from the initial planning and layout of your milking parlour to the day-to-day servicing thereafter. McCaul Dairy Services has forged long-lasting relationships with its customers by offering servicing support, emergency service and technical support on an ongoing basis.

The business is proud to fly the flag for DeLaval in its region and its extensive product range which includes milking machines, bulk tanks, automatic washers, cow brushes, feeders, gates and dairy detergents. DeLaval is a world leader in the dairy farming industry with over 125 years of innovation and experience, supporting dairy farmers in managing their farms their way. DeLaval provides integrated milking solutions designed to improve dairy farmers’ production, animal welfare and overall quality of life.

The renowned brand develops, manufactures and markets equipment and complete systems for milk production and animal husbandry worldwide. DeLaval supplies highly efficient system solutions for milking, herd management, animal traffic control, feeding, cooling, manure handling, ventilation and energy recovery.

While McCaul Dairy Services’ postal address is Co. Monaghan, Cootehill in Co. Cavan is Padraig’s local town.

“DeLaval has a network of dealers around the country and we represent them in Cavan and North Meath. The brand has a great reputation and a large and loyal customer-base in Ireland. We supply all of their products.”

Padraig has been in the dairy business since 1988 when he joined M&S Dairy Services, which was run by Paddy Marron until his retirement three years ago. This provided Padraig with the opportunity to fill the void left and to start his own business. He recruited fellow milking machine technician Greg Calvert, who he had worked alongside in M&S Dairy Services.

“I took over the DeLaval dealership from Paddy and have held on to the same customers as well as adding a few new ones. I continued where Paddy left off. Greg and I have a wealth of experience when it comes to fitting machines and servicing them. Our service and commitment to our customers is second to none.”

McCaul Dairy Services provide on-farm milking machine service, maintenance and 24-hour breakdown cover all year round. The company can cater for everything from new parlour installations, parlour modifications and updates and milking machine parts to parlour servicing and testing, mastitis advice and a wide range of dairy consumables and accessories.

If you are thinking of building a new milking parlour, McCaul Dairy Services can design plans to best suit your specific requirements and offer advice and expertise. They will then install your plant and once it is up-and-running, visit your farm to make sure you are happy with the system and ensure that it is running at optimal performance. It’s recommended that your parlour is serviced at least once a year and inspected every six months.

With the abolition of EU milk quotas last year, small to medium-sized farmers are increasing their milk supply.

“The average herd size of dairy farmers in Cavan and North Meath is 50-60. We can fit any size of milking machine to suit the dairy farmer’s needs,” Padraig says.

“It’s a difficult time for dairy farmers at the moment due to the poor prices they are getting for their milk. We’re obviously hoping the prices will improve soon. When the farmers are going well, we’re going well. That’s the way it works.”

McCaul Dairy Services is also an agent for Alfco Engineering whose products include automatic slurry scrapers and cow mats. The company also installs automatic and manual in-parlour feeders for Cashman Engineering Products and Orby Engineering. In addition, it stocks a range of battery and mains powered electric fences as well as dual battery / mains powered electric fences.
