Years of experience in the field

11 Oct , 2016

We caught up with Derry White of Derry White Agri Contractors who has grown the business from modest beginnings and built up an extensive fleet of tractors and associated machinery.

Derry White Agri Contractors is a family run contracting business based in Broadford, Co Limerick and they have been successfully delivering and developing their agricultural contracting services for over four decades.

Set up in 1973, their simple aim is customer satisfaction and repeat business, which they have thankfully been able to sustain each year.

With over 40 years experience in both farming and the use of machinery, proprietor Derry White can provide the best agricultural contracting services at competitive prices, which means his customers can get the job done quickly and efficiently at minimum cost.

Derry and his seven employees pride themselves on offering the best agricultural contracting services possible. They can ensure your job, no matter how big or small, is completed to the highest level.

They have a fleet of modern and up to date machinery which means they have the latest technology to complete a variety of agricultural operations. Their range of services is broad and flexible but silage and slurry are specialities.

“We cover a 30 mile radius and, thankfully, we’ve been busy in recent times,” Derry revealed when speaking to Irish Tractor & Agri magazine. “We’re lucky in that many of our customers are long standing and have remained very loyal to us down through the years.”

There is more than one string to Derry’s bow as he also runs, in conjunction with his wife Ita, sons Jeremiah and Gavin, and daughter, Brenda, Whites Land Drainage as well as Whites Skip Hire from their Broadford base.

Whites Land Drainage is proud to be one of the very few companies in Ireland to sport inter drain machines and with these machines they are better equipped to dig drains with little damage to fields.

The team at Whites Drainage do this by digging, laying pipe and filling the drain all at once. In conjunction with their accurate field planning and mapping system, this helps reduce traffic on the site and means that in wet or dry conditions your field will be workable as quick as possible after the job.

“My father, Richard White, was in contracting and branched into land drainage in the fifties,” Derry explained. “I look after that end of the business myself as it’s an old timers job!” he added laughing.

“I started off doing it in the early eighties but, as the years went on, there wasn’t much of a demand for that service. Then in the summer of 2009 it was obvious to me that a lot of the land had slipped backwards over time. I went out and bought a drainer that winter and have been quite busy ever since.”

Whites Skip Hire, meanwhile, provide a range of tailored services to both small and large companies.

Their waste management services range from 24/7 scheduled collection to on-site recycling programmes and the supply of specialised waste containers and equipment.

Providing skip and bin hire to commercial industries and businesses as well as to private householders, Whites is one of Limerick’s leading independent waste recycling companies offering services throughout the county.

They are renowned as a fully compliant respected industry expert that have the environment and health and safety as a major priority.

“We established the skip and bin hire business in 1999 and we’ve noticed an upturn in business in recent years as the economy recovers.”

Derry White’s professional experience and clear understanding of his customers individual needs has allowed them to have complete confidence in him for the last 43 years.

His family run businesses provide a friendly and trustworthy service that has seen great returns for them and their customers.

Derry White Agri Contractors, for instance, provide the farmer with a cost effective and useful alternative for many of their farming operations.
