Tyrone’s KUHN and SlurryKat specialists

7 Apr , 2017

Since setting up shop just over two years ago, Drumlish Farm Machinery near Omagh, Co Tyrone have become specialists in KUHN and SlurryKat farm machinery. Managing Director Gerard Barrett told us all about the business and his hopes for the long-term.

These may be difficult times for the farmer, but Drumlish Farm Machinery continues to provide them with some of the best machinery brands on the market at competitive prices.

Based just outside Dromore in Co Tyrone, the company stocks a range of equipment, including world leading agricultural brands such as KUHN and SlurryKat, as well as taking on the less well known Agrional brand specialising in spraying equipment. The business also stocks spare parts for these and many other brands of machinery – backed up with a reliable after sales service that their customers can depend on.

They are proud to be the distributors of the world’s number one manufacturer of grassland machinery brand KUHN and also the market leading Slurrykat range of reliable, quality and affordable machinery. The addition of the Agrional range of spraying equipment is the most recent addition to the range which aims to supply a more affordable option to this area of the market.

The family run business is headed up by Gerard Barrett and his three brothers along with their father Vincent, having originally started out as agricultural contractors in the Dromore region.

“We have been agri contractors for over 20 years and there are four brothers involved, along with my father, who started things up here many years ago. With our involvement in Agri contracting over the past 20 years, we are well known for good service. The Drumlish Farm Machinery end of the business has been up and running a little over two years now and works well alongside the contracting where our reputation was built,” explained Gerard.

Indeed the Barrett family have generations of experience within the farming and agricultural industries behind them and they have always kept up to date with latest technologies and developments in the world of agriculture. It means they are able to advise their customers on the most appropriate machinery and equipment for your farming needs.

Concentrating on the most tried and tested brands within agriculture, Drumlish Farm Machinery are specialists in KUHN and SlurryKat and Agrional machinery and can supply everything from  Balers and Harrows to Mowers and Slurry spreading equipment tankers, umbical systems, dribble bars, trailing shoe, Doda pumps and Oroflex hose and Agrional sprayers.

With Kuhn and Slurrykat machinery being the number one manufacturers of reliable, quality and affordable machinery in the world, they have access to unrivalled machinery engineering to meet your agricultural needs.

“Drumlish Farm Machinery started selling the Kuhn range of machinery in 2014 and then about year into it we started selling for SlurryKat and things began to take off here. Thankfully, we haven’t looked back and business is going well at the moment. It has been very good lately and part of that is because we’re selling the most tried and trusted brands all over Ireland.

“From the Kuhn range, the one that probably sells the best for us is the Kuhn IBio Round Baler, but there are a lot of products for us going well right now.”

Kuhn has been manufacturing quality machinery for the farming community for generations and their commitment to high quality innovative products ensures all customer requirements are met to a high standard.

Over  65,000 machines are produced every year employing 4,500 staff all over the world. Their high skills and commitment ensures the best products are available to meet the ever increasing demands of farmers.

“From the SlurryKat range, we have had success with all of the machinery they manufacture with the Doda pumps, reelers and blockcutters proving most popular.”

All of the SlurryKat equipment must meet the standard of a robust quality process, so the customer can be assured of quality machinery designed to perform and deliver on its promise. SlurryKat continue to build their reputation as a company which is renowned for building the best slurry equipment in the world.

Both brands manufacture a wide range of machinery which is included in the current Farm Modernisation Scheme for Northern Ireland Farmers.

With the strength of the Euro since March of this year, Drumlish Farm Machinery has seen a strong interest from customers in the Rep. of Ireland. The use of the internet has been very successful in increasing awareness of the business to customers from Coleraine to Cork.

The Barrett family have always been highly reputable agricultural contractors and their recommendations are also backed up with 20 years of experience in using Kuhn and SlurryKat machinery on all aspects of farming life.

At Drumlish Farm Machinery, competitive pricing comes as standard giving the customer peace of mind when it comes to managing his or her machinery and farming budgets.

It all makes for positive signs for Drumlish Farm Machinery’s future, having only set up in 2014, as the Barretts look to grow the business again in 2017 and, of course, beyond.

It’s a far cry from when the family first started up as agricultural contractors, primarily covering the Dromore area. Gerard says that his father deserves much of the credit for the glowing reputation that Barretts now have amongst the farming community.

“We are well-known in the area and a lot of that comes down to the work my father has done down through the years in both farming and contracting” said Gerard.

“He has earned a great reputation down the year for his work and the competitive prices we give our customers. Most of our customers are within a 15-mile radius and there are plenty of those that would be with us from 20 years ago when we first started.”

The agri contracting end of the business sees the Barretts specialising primarily in Silage Contracting, Slurry spreading, re-seeding & hedge-cutting, using top brand machinery in doing so.

“We mostly specialise in silage cutting and some of the machinery we’d have here would include; John Deere, Krone, the Kuhn 10-foot mowers and 30-foot mowers and some 30-foot rakes,” Gerard said.

“We operate a fleet of Deutz and Lamborghini tractors which had proved reliable over the years, and the start of spring is usually the busiest time of year for us. We could be taking on up to five extra staff during that period in order to keep with demand, so between that and Drumlish Farm Machinery we’re kept extremely busy and hopefully it continues to stay that way.”
