“We offer an array of services to private and commercial clients,” Rowland explains.

“We cover all of Northern Ireland and parts of the Republic as well. We are busy all year round and have grown by 25 per cent in the past two years. Our biggest customer is ESB Networks who we’ve been working for since the late-1990s. We cover an area from Dundalk down to Mullingar and also the whole of Co. Donegal for them, with this specialised work safety is our priority, ESB provides us with induction training, supervisory training and full support in our daily operations, safety is of course paramount and as well as working to stringent safety guidelines provided from ESB, we also sought independent safety approval, this is provided by SafeTcert and we are now in our third year as being SafeTcert certified.

“We also work for NIE Networks, periodically for over 22 years now, Harold McIvor leads the crew on this work Harry has over 20 years’ experience and expertise in tree surgery, and we have a wide range of private customers, including many farmers. Most of our business is secured through word of mouth, we have been fortunate over the years gaining customers this way”.

Trees are beautiful, majestic beings, but sometimes they can outgrow their surroundings or outstay their welcome. If you have a tree in your garden or on your land that is becoming overbearing, Abraham Tree Maintenance can offer a variety of solutions. Ranging from crown reduction, which makes the tree appear smaller, through to complete tree removal, they’ll take care of the entire process.

While a tree itself may be thriving, the ground below it may be suffering due to lack of sunlight and water. There are a variety of solutions to this common problem, so why not give the Abraham team a call and they’ll take you through them. The main services offered are tree felling, tree removal, tree pruning and thinning, hedge pruning, stump removal, crown reduction, tree surveys and inspection.

Abraham Tree Maintenance is fully insured for your peace of mind and offers great prices on all services and products. All staff have undergone NPTC training at TKF (T Kirk Forestry), National Training Solutions in Navan, Co. Meath or at Abortech in Ballycastle, Co. Antrim. The cost of the training is footed by the company itself.

“We don’t take on staff unless they are, or willing to become fully trained,” Rowland stresses.

“Being a tree surgeon is one of the most dangerous occupations there is, and that is why it is so important to follow health & safety guidelines at all times. Our staff is a mixture of tree surgeons, climbers, groundsmen and work planners. Given the dangerous nature of the work, it can be a challenge for us to recruit the right staff. We have found that there aren’t many young people out there who are interested in becoming tree surgeons although we have been fortunate to establish a very good team of staff. Our team of staff are made up of three crews consisting of 3-4 staff with a mixture of climbers and ground persons, Christopher White is a crew leader, he joined us fresh from leaving school over 12 years ago over the years he obtained NPTC, City & Guilds, Solas and first aid qualifications enabling him to become an intensively skilled tree surgeon, Our other crew leader Andrew White came to us from working as a young person in the building trade and also excelled himself to become an experienced tree surgeon.

Abraham Tree Maintenance runs a modern fleet of vehicles consisting of three lorries, three 4x4s, two vans and four chippers. The three crews all operate machinery which is calibrated by the NIE, including chainsaws, pole saws, insulated rods, insulated handsaws and specialist climbing equipment. All equipment is subject to regular safety checks, while twice-weekly audits are also carried out.

The company’s central location within Northern Ireland means its crews are never far away from the customer. The staff have a huge passion for timber and a great understanding of trees and their ways.

Owner Tom Abraham says: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their support and loyalty over the past 25 years. We are constantly striving to improve and enhance our services and equipment. We look forward to catering for all of our clients’ tree surgery requirements for many more years to come.”
