Farm machinery is expensive to buy, but they are essential pieces of equipment for anyone involved in the agricultural sector to carry out their duties on a daily basis.
So when farmers go to part with their hard earned cash, they want a reliable and efficient service that doesn’t end once they leave the dealer with their machinery.
The after service is just as important deal itself and many main dealers place a great emphasis on this in order to ensure customer satisfaction.
One business that has always placed a great emphasis is the renowned Birr based Tom Shaw Farm Machinery Ltd which has been supplying an excellent service to an ever increasing customer base for over four decades now.
Established by Tom Shaw in 1988 (becoming a limited company in 1995), this family run business has customers coming from the county of Offaly as well as all surrounding counties and further afield.
Having built up a reputation for excellence in both sales and service, Tom Shaw Farm Machinery is known amongst the farming community the length and breadth of the country.
Tom has always used the philosophy of ensuring customer satisfaction and this has seen a large increase in the amount of repeat custom that they have.
From humble beginnings, the company has grown and expanded over the years and they are now main dealers for the likes of Same, Deutz-Fahr, Krone, Blaney, McHale, HiSpec, Bredal, Conor, Quicke, Rossmore, Guttler, Fransgard and many more agencies in the midlands.
Sales Manager Mark Graham revealed to Irish Tractor that they pride themselves on the service that they provide for their customers.
“We stock a wide range of farm machinery and farm handling equipment and we would be main dealers for all the leading brands,” said Mark. “Our back up service is something that we are continuously trying to improve and I think our customers are pleased with that.”
Aside from the main dealerships that they hold, Mark revealed that they are also main importers of some of the world’s leading farm machinery.
“We are main importers for Belair self-loading Grazers, as well as Jeantil Manure equipment and Staltech Disc Harrows. These are leading brands and since we started bringing them in, we’ve found that they are becoming very popular.
“In the last 12 months or less, we have sold ten Belair self-grazers and there is great interest in them. We’re hopeful that we can improve on that over the next year or so.”
Mark added that there second hand trade is doing very well also as customers know that they will be buying top quality machinery from the Birr based dealer.
“We have experienced mechanics here and everything is fully serviced before it leaves here. At the end of the day, it is in our best interest to ensure that all equipment is in excellent condition as it is our reputation at stake.
“At present our workshop consists of a team of four full time fitters, helped out seasonally by Tom himself. In order to keep up to date with the ever more technically advanced machinery on the market to date, the workshop has a full range of special tools for diagnostic and repair of all the machines we sell, including a top of the range dynamometer. The staff, including Tom, regularly attend all relevant service courses both in Ireland and overseas to keep up to date with all current models and developments.”
Another area that Tom Shaw Farm Machinery Ltd is renowned for is their parts department which Mark believes has one of the best parts turnover in the country.
“We stock nothing but genuine stock and we have an extensive range of parts stocked here at all times. We use a next day delivery service, while manager of the parts department Peter Dolan has an unequalled knowledge of the parts. Customers that may have bought their machinery elsewhere sometimes end up coming to us for parts as they can’t get them from where they bought the machinery and end up coming to us.
“Peter is always there to help and often when customers are unsure what they actually need, he will be able to help on that front. We stock bearings, hydraulic fittings, filters, oil, tanker fittings, hoses, misc grass parts, lights, tools and PTO parts.
We also stock a large range of tools, fencing, farm related equipment and merchandise including overalls jackets high-visibility jackets and safety gear, for example, safety goggles and steel-toe boots. We also stock a range of farm based toys. Delivery of parts can be arranged throughout Ireland.”
Accounts and administration are managed by Siobhan Doyle. They have recently updated our software to allow us keep up with developments in this area.
Tom Shaw Farm Machinery endeavours to better its reputation for selling only the best machinery, new and second hand. When dealing with Tom Shaw Farm Machinery Ltd you can be sure of the best personal attention which we’re renowned for.
“We provide a high quality professional service to customers with elevated emphasis placed on after sales service and customer care.
The Tom Shaw Farm Machinery Ltd team would like to thank their customers for their business over the years and hope that the relationship continues for some years to come.
