The Finnegan way

3 Aug , 2021

For many decades, the Finnegan family, operating as Finnegan & Sons Agri Contractors,  have provided their services to a large customer base that is located within a 20-mile radius of their homestead in Clonberne, Co Galway.

Niall Finnegan’s grandfather Mickey Finnegan originally started the business as beet harvesting was carried out with a Major tractor and machine. It is a third generation business now that Niall and his brother Darragh are involved.

The majority of their customers have been with the Finnegan’s for generations as they carry out such services as silage cutting, baling, raking, tedding, muck spreading, hedge-cutting, mulching, slurry, all kinds of tilling work, land drainage, turf cutting, etc.

Investment is key to the success of the business as the machinery is upgraded on a regular basis with a new Fusion baler and Rake being purchased off McHale Farm Machinery in Kilmaine, Co Mayo, while a new wagon arrived from Kieran Johnston Agri Services Ltd in Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo in recent times.

The Finnegan’s use the philosophy that you can never have too much machinery as breakdowns will always occur and it is important to have back-up, as downtime is something to be avoided at all costs during their peak period.

Farming 40 acres of their own, they know exactly what their clients need, and they endeavour to get in, get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible and move on.

Time is of the essence in this industry as the weather plays a massive part in determining when they can get the work done. That is why they use state of the art machinery plus a reliable workforce of six experienced men to get through their daily routine.

Maintenance is key to running a smooth operation and the Finnegan’s carry out their own servicing and repair work for any of the machinery that is not under warranty. They run six tractors made up of four Case, a John Deere and a Fendt.

With the experience that this family run business has, it is no surprise that their customers continue to stay with them as they offer their clients the peace of mind that the work will be done to a professional standard.
