Meath Farm Machinery’s winning formula

7 Jan , 2026

Through a focus on reliable products, attentive aftersales service, and a dedicated team with strong technical knowledge, Meath Farm Machinery has become a respected name in agricultural machinery in Ireland. 46 years since its founding, this family-owned business continues to support farmers through its depots in Navan, Cavan, and Dundalk.

Founded on principles of service, quality, and expertise, Meath Farm Machinery has grown steadily and organically since its beginnings in Kilberry, Navan, County Meath in 1979. Established by Peter Timmons, the company is now led by his son Ian, who has continued to uphold the same core values and long-term vision since becoming managing director in 2017.

Now operating from three locations, Meath Farm Machinery is the main John Deere dealer for counties Meath, Dublin, Louth, Monaghan, Cavan, North Kildare, Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath, and parts of Sligo.

Despite current challenges in the agricultural sector, the business has remained steady, supported by careful planning, reinvestment, and a clear focus on both customer service and product quality.

“We’ve seen some positive growth again this year, which is encouraging,” says Ian. “There are definitely ongoing difficulties in areas like tillage, but farmers remain remarkably resilient, and we do our best to support them however we can.”

At the heart of the business is a team of 50 employees spread across the three busy depots. “We have an excellent team of people here and that’s key,” Ian notes, “Our entire team is experienced, skilled, motivated, and friendly — and they all work exceptionally hard. We’re really blessed in that regard.”

A major emphasis is placed on the John Deere Precision AG department, where Meath Farm Machinery has gone above and beyond to help farmers enhance the efficiency and performance of their equipment by unlocking smart farming technologies. “About 90 per cent of the machines have the full package on them now and customers are using precision technology in their combines and forage harvesters. It’s a very busy department and it perfectly complements everything else we do.”

In an ever-evolving world, the critical importance of running a modern and progressive operation has always been apparent to Ian: “You have to move with the times, there’s no other way. If you stand still, you will get left behind. You have to embrace the latest technology and it’s something we’ve really taken on board and pushed forward with.”

Meath Farm Machinery offers a wide range of John Deere equipment, supported by a strong after-sales team that helps keep machines running efficiently. “We built this place on service and that’s what keeps the wheels turning,” says the MD. “You have to look after the machines you sell or you won’t sell any more; it doesn’t work the other way around.

The opening of the Dundalk depot in November 2023 marked a significant milestone, becoming the company’s third location. It has performed exceptionally well since opening, extending the company’s reach and ensuring continuity of service for customers in the area.

Alongside John Deere, Meath Farm Machinery represents other trusted brands including Kramer, Kuhn, Hi-Spec, Smyth Trailers, Heva, Alpego and Tyrone Trailers. Forever thinking ahead, they have also taken on the crop.zone agency for all of Ireland.

crop.zone is one of Europe’s leading providers of large-scale electric crop management. Their sustainable solutions include herbicide-free desiccation, treatment of cover crops and weed control, achieving high-quality results while protecting the soil.

“John Deere has always been at the core of our business,” Ian says. “When it comes to choosing additional brands to work with, we look for manufacturers that share the same standards of quality and reliability. It’s important to us that every product we offer can stand up to real-world demands and support the work our customers do every day. Smyth trailers are a great example — they’re extremely well built and trusted by many of our customers.”

Reflecting on nearly five decades in business, Ian remains grateful to those who’ve made the journey possible: “Our staff, suppliers, and customers have all played a vital role. We’ve been lucky to have people stay with us for the long haul — Paddy Corrigan, for example, has been here at the counter in Kilberry since the day we started in 1979.”

Fast forward to 2025 and Paddy along with the team at Meath Farm Machinery are still looking after customers’ every needs. The more things change, the more they stay the same!
