Kevin McCarthy’s name is synonymous with quality farm buildings in West Cork

14 Sep , 2021

Based in Dunmanway, County Cork, Kevin McCarthy Construction is a leading building contractor that specialises in Agricultural, Commercial, Domestic and Industrial buildings. They offer high quality farm buildings at competitive prices every time.

Kevin McCarthy set up his construction business in 1980 and, since then, has established himself as a permanent fixture on the local agricultural landscape. Known wide and far as a builder that can be trusted to deliver quality buildings with the minimum of fuss, the affable Kevin is more than happy to let his work speak for itself.

“I have a lot of repeat clients on my books, I’ve been going back to some of the same customers over the last 25 years,” he revealed in conversation with Irish Tractor & Agri.

“Since I started there have only been two buildings that I have put up my company sign up on and people often ask me, ‘how come you never put up your sign on the buildings?’. My answer to them is my work is my advertisement. That’s the best way to sum it up.

“For example, I did a major job in the agricultural college in Clonakilty in 2000/’01 and I didn’t put my name up on the building. I was asked several times why not, people pointing out that it was a training centre for young farmers. I didn’t put it up because, as I say, my work is my reputation. People will know about me as a result of the quality buildings I do.

“I don’t advertise, I’m just well-known down here from the city out west through my past work and word of mouth.”

Their ever expanding list of projects Kevin McCarthy Construction has built is testament to the quality and expertise of Kevin and his team and backs up their renowned reputation for completing projects on time and to the clients satisfaction.

They take great pride in their ability to deliver exactly what the client wants.

Expenditure on farm buildings is by its nature a long-term capital investment that needs careful planning, both from a financial and a technical point of view. Good workmanship and correctly specified materials are also essential if it is to stand the test of time and prove good value for money.

Kevin McCarthy Construction provides a high-quality Agricultural Building Construction Service throughout Cork and Munster.

They possess the capabilities to construct a wide range of farm and agricultural buildings. With more than 30 years’ experience installing milking parlours, grain stores, equestrian centres and general purpose sheds, they have a long history of supplying and erecting all types of agricultural buildings. Other specialities include storage units, tanks, walls and silage slabs.

Kevin offers a professional service and a high quality product at a competitive price and travels throughout Munster to carry out foundation, erection and groundwork.

“I would have started out concentrating on farm buildings and then moved into house extensions and the odd school extension. In the ‘00s, I did a few Government projects and factory extensions and warehouses.

“I’m a one stop shop for farm buildings. I do all the steel work and the concrete work, the complete job. I used to fabricate before myself but not anymore. There’s a guy up the country whose family have done work for me going back a while, Emmet Mitchell, and he does all my fabrication.

“I did a fair few big grain stores down through the years and I also did a major warehousing project in Little Island back in ’05.”

Kevin revealed that his company’s services are very much in demand at this point in time.

“Things are unbelievably busy. West Cork is a very big dairying part of the country and the amount of milking parlours and slatted sheds that have been going up in recent years is unbelievable.

“There are a lot of lads down here that wouldn’t have been milking in their lifetime but have gone into it the last two to three years so it was something that I would have expected. The only downside is that labour is very hard to come by these days.”

Keen to point out that no corners are cut when it comes to Health & Safety, Kevin expressed confidence that calls will continue to come into the company’s telephone with work enquiries in the months ahead. Contact him today to discuss your requirements.
