15 Mar , 2017

Looking for an agricultural contractor on the Ards peninsula? Get in touch with James Angus & Partners Agricultural Contractors who offer their clients a wide range of services. Irish Tractor & Agri caught up with Andy Angus.

Farmers need not worry about taking time out from their busy day when they employ the services of James Angus & Partners Agricultural Contractors because they are renowned for the exceptional services they provide their customers.

Professional standards with a personal touch, their customers can expect the highest quality of workmanship from the Angus family and their professional and committed staff.

In order to provide a sustainable future, the Angus family commenced contracting in 1983. In tandem with the family farm and the contracting business, they also run a livestock haulage company.

With its mild marine microclimate, with dry and fertile soils suitable for extensive agriculture, the Ards peninsula has been home to the Angus family for generations.

“We’re primarily dairy, beef and sheep farmers and we also grow 100 acres of cereals per year. We own 170 acres and rent an extra 300 acres,” Andy Angus explained to Irish Tractor & Agri magazine. “Initially, we started contracting as a sideline and we’ve been at it for the 33 years. The livestock haulage business, which was set up by our father James, has been on the go since the 1940s.”

Along with his elder brother, Richard, Andy takes care of the contracting business while younger brothers, Raymond and David are responsible for the day-to-day running of the family’s livestock haulage business.

Specialists when it comes to silage, slurry, manure and lime, the team at James Angus & Partners has worked hard over the years to provide an efficient, conscientious and professional service. They feel they have acquired an excellent reputation for providing a reliable and timely approach to all aspects of their business.

“If man wants a job done, he wants it done that day or the next day at the latest. We’ve been working for the same farmers since the eighties and, at this stage, we know the week of the year they’ll ring us. We practically know the day and hour when they’ll come on to us looking for jobs done. That happens more time than not.

“All of our customers are local here on the Ards peninsula within a 10 mile radius of our yard and we’re always on the lookout for new customers,” Andy added.

“My son James, who is studying at Greenmount College, has come onboard for the summer while Richard’s son, Paul is also involved. We’re very much a family business and they are the next generation.”

With a professional but friendly approach and high quality of work, James Angus & Partners are able to help maximise their customers’ profits and keep contracts running smoothly.

The machinery owned by the business is both a full and up to date compliment with regular replacement of the major items.

Their machinery policy is to regularly assess machinery requirements and upgrade or increase capacity where required to enable them to provide and maintain a first class service.

“We’ve added a new tractor to our fleet every year for the last five to six years,” Andy pointed out.

Have they much work on at the moment?

“We’re busy enough but it’s not easy because these are difficult times,” he answered. “There are challenges out there. The price of machinery is on the rise but we’re not in a position where we can up our rates.

“The cost of fuel is also rising. It has been dropping for the last three years but we’ve seen it creep up again since March. The big plus is the weather has been in our favour this year.”

Andy and his brothers have developed a strong and very competent contracting business over the years and as a family they pride themselves on the quality of their work along with providing a personal service to all farmers they carry out work for.

With a vast amount of experience in both farming and the operation of agricultural machinery, the Angus’ provide the best contracting services, which means you can get the job done quickly and efficiently at minimum cost.

Offering attractive terms, they are flexible to suit your needs and can normally offer something to resolve your problem.
