Hard work pays off

16 Sep , 2015

Thanks to an appetite for hard graft and a willingness to roll up their sleeves, Tommy Prendergast, his wife and sons have made a great success of their agricultural contracting business.

Thomas Prendergast Agri is a family farming and agricultural contracting company based in Dangan, Golden, Cashel, Co Tipperary, focussed on providing a high-quality service and customer satisfaction to the local farming community.

On leaving school, Tommy Prendergast went into the agri contracting business back in 1968 and today, along with his wife Mary and sons Gary and William, they offer an extensive range of contracting services to farmers and landowners.

With 46 years experience in both farming and the use of machinery to fall back on, Tommy and his team can provide the best agricultural contracting services at competitive prices.

It means their loyal customers get the job done quickly and efficiently at reasonable cost. When it comes to pit silage, bale silage, ploughing, reseeding and all other tillage operations, under pressure farmers in the surrounding area need look no further than Tommy and his team.

“We cater for all types of agricultural work,” Tommy outlined to Irish Tractor & Agri,” and we are committed to providing a top class service.”

Down through the years the Prendergast family-run operation has built up a professional and dedicated team of staff, which currently numbers seven full-time employees with additional seasonal staff taken on at peak times, and using the latest machinery and equipment, they provide a professional service within a 20 mile radius of their Dangan base.

They boast a wide range of machinery to carry out their clients’ work quickly and efficiently, providing them with value for money and an alternative to investing in their own expensive equipment.

Tommy is approachable and ensures his customers receive personal attention regularly and, as a result, they boast a loyal customer base which is also testimony to the quality of their work.

Renowned for their diligence and reliability, no job is too big or small.

“We have loyal customers who avail of our services. We pride ourselves on being efficient and on the quality of our service. Our customers know they can rely on us which, it goes without saying, is important in this line of work.”

In an effort to improve productivity, the Prendergast’s are constantly looking to update their machinery and equipment. With a large and modern fleet of equipment, they can tackle any job small or large.

And, as far as they are concerned, when it comes to tractors, you can’t beat the New Holland brand when it comes to handling the toughest field conditions with ease.

“We have eight tractors and they are all New Holland.” Why New Holland? “They get the work done, they’re reliable and are economic to run. Also, our main dealers M&S Machinery and JR Perry are only a stone’s throw away and offer a fantastic back up service.”

Most farmers, meanwhile, were happy with the quality and yield of last year’s cut and are hoping for more of the same in 2015. When the rain stays away, it makes life a lot easier for the likes of Tommy.

“The main challenge in this business is the weather which, unfortunately, is out of our control. We were lucky in 2014 and we had very busy year. It was easy to get the work done because the weather was so good.”
