Yorkshire-based T Grange & Son has recorded extraordinary longevity from the Michelin XMCL tyres working on its Claas Scorpion telehandler.
The vehicle is still operating on the same original equipment 460/70 R24 fitments it arrived on in 2011, having now clocked up more than 7,000 hours in operation.
Part of Michelin’s popular Compact Line range, the XMCL is the ideal tyre for equipping backhoe loaders and telehandlers – providing a high level of resistance to wear thanks to a robust rubber compound that stands up perfectly to all conditions.
According to the manufacturer, reinforced sidewalls and a steel braced tread improve puncture-resistance, boost handling and traction, in addition to offering operational stability and a smoother ride for the operator.
Commenting, Brian Grange, owner of T Grange & Son, says: “It’s fair to say the Michelin tyres have passed the test of time!
“We’ve had them on the machine since we bought it and in that whole time – close to 13 years – we have only ever had one puncture to repair, which is pretty remarkable. Michelin certainly know how to build a quality tyre. The performance is great, and they are as tough as they come.”
Used mainly to load grain onto trucks, T Grange & Son’s Claas Scorpion is operating predominantly on concrete and equipped with a 1.5 tonne bucket on the front.
“Occasionally it will go into the fields, but the vast majority of its work is moving our grain onto the trailers, and moving straw and hay bales,” adds Grange. “We’ve run plenty of Michelin tyres across our fleet over the years and always found them to last a very long time.”
T Grange & Son farms 260 hectares of land from its base at Hasling Hall Farm, in Otley, producing hay, milled barley and other grains.
