Carbery Group has announced it has again achieved Gold Membership of Bord Bia’s national food and drink sustainability programme Origin Green.
A world first, Origin Green is Ireland’s pioneering food and drink sustainability programme, bringing together all members of the food supply chain from public, private and farming sectors to set and achieve measurable sustainability targets that respect the environment and serve local communities more effectively.
Gold membership acknowledges the efforts of companies which have achieved exceptional annual performance on their sustainability targets in the previous year, in areas such as raw material sourcing, water, emissions, waste reductions, and social sustainability.
Speaking about the news, Jason Hawkins, Carbery CEO said: “We are delighted to have once again achieved Gold Membership as part of the Origin Green initiative. Achieving it is a testament to everyone in our business who works tirelessly to make us a sustainable company and most importantly supporting our local communities.
“We are focused on making our collective impact a positive one, keeping sustainability at the heart of our business practices. This achievement is recognition of this efforts which we are all proud of.”
Carbery Chairman Vincent O’Donovan said “The relationship between farmers, processors and Origin Green is crucial to ensure that we can continue to sell our premium dairy products in global markets. Positive progress on sustainability is a key part of maintaining this standard. Congratulations to the Carbery team for their commitment to continuing to attain gold membership as part of this programme and to our farmer shareholders who continue the work to reduce emissions on their farms, and we can see the results of their efforts in recent significant emissions reductions.”
