Annaveigh Plants Ltd, based in New Inn, Co. Tipperary lies just south of the heritage town of Cashel and is run and operated by Ireland’s most experienced nursery team – John Murphy, Grainne Murphy and Trevor Landers.
With a combined experience of 80 years in the horticultural business, all have worked in many aspects of the industry in Ireland, Holland, Germany and the UK and together have a wealth of knowledge in the growing and supply of plant material.
At the core of the business is their award winning 85-acre nursery which is widely acknowledged as the country’s foremost tree nursery producing plants for both the domestic and export markets. The nursery has been awarded many accolades including two Irish Nursery of the Year awards and is an accredited member of the An Bord Bia Horticultural Quality Assurance Scheme.
“Back in 2004 John and Grainne started a small nursery comprising 15 acres,” Trevor informed Irish Tractor. “Over the intervening years, they started expanding and now cover approximately 125 acres and employ a staff of 22 people.
“John and Grainne have been in the business since they left college in UCD while I’m in the business for the past 20 years,” Trevor – who joined Annaveigh Plants as Sales Manager seven years ago – added.
“There’s 80 years’ experience between the three of us. In addition, we have a fantastic support team with Jason Duncan also looking after sales and logistics and Janis Hildebrants (Nursery Manager) who runs everything outside on a daily basis. It really is a team effort.
“The majority of the staff outside are very knowledgeable as they have been trained ‘on the job’. As a result, they carry out the work to the highest standards. We have a very low staff turnover which makes a huge difference and that reflects well on the business.”
Strictly wholesalers and exporters, Annaveigh Plants grow a wide and varied assortment of 3 and 4 times transplanted trees, multi-stems, shaped trees and screens and through a combination of good fertile soil and experience in pruning, training and transplanting their customers have come to expect only the highest quality from Annaveigh.
What makes Annaveigh stand out is their ability to supply the full soft landscape requirements for even the most demanding of projects. Their knowledge of plant availability and quality throughout Ireland and Europe means that the nursery has become a major asset to many of Ireland’s Landscape Architects, Designers, Local Authority Parks Department and Landscape Contractors.
Over the last 12 years they have built up a strong supplier network in Germany, Holland, Italy and Ireland allowing them to source a vast array of products from seedlings to specimens. With their extensive knowledge of up to date availability throughout Europe they are able to offer their clients the best quality at the most competitive price.
Their ability to supply and deliver the complete package means their clients can co-ordinate call offs and delivery with one company leaving them in a position to concentrate on the other aspects of the project without the irritation of multiple deliveries. The logistics operation is second to none.
With their transport partner, O’Dwyer’s Transport of Littleton, they can arrange deliveries to suit client’s requirement and track the trucks’ progress at all times. All truck deliveries have the added benefit of a truck mounted Moffit forklift for ease of unloading on site and all their drivers have years of experience in plant handling.
At Annaveigh they like to think of themselves as not only horticultural experts but also logistics experts. Their vast client base and delivery network means that “no matter where in the country you operate from we can get your order delivered,” Trevor said.
Throughout the past 12 years Annaveigh Plants have supplied many of the country’s most prestigious landscape projects. Some examples include: The Aviva Stadium, The Titanic Quarter, Belfast; Adare Manor Hotel, Hillsborough Castle and Dublin Zoo, to name but a few. They also supply many of the County Councils and Borough Councils throughout the country from their wholesale base near Cashel, Co. Tipperary.
“Ireland’s climate makes it an ideal country for growing quality produce. We have some of best trees in Europe available here,” Trevor concluded.
