WEST TYRE is an independent family-run business with over 25 years’ experience in the tyre industry in the Mayo / Galway region. Operating in Ballinrobe since 2006, the company recently opened a second tyre centre in Westport to cater for its growing customer-base.
While the WEST TYRE name has only been around for a decade, its owners have been in the tyre business since 1990 when Ronan and Matthew Murphy established M&R Motors in Shrule, which is still going strong to this day and also specialises in auto repairs and car sales. Following on from that, the brothers established the first WEST TYRE depot on the Castlebar Road in Ballinrobe in 2006 and now, 10 years later, they have brought the same friendly and affordable sales and service to The Fairgreen in Westport.
The newly-renovated premises, which is adjacent to Hoban’s Centra, is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, including the latest technology in four-wheel alignment. There is the option of a waiting area available or alternatively customers can drop their vehicle off and do their business in Westport while their tyres are attended to.
“We opened the Westport depot in July,” Matthew Murphy explains.
“It’s a great location in the heart of the town. It’s probably more suited to car owners than tractor owners. Our Ballinrobe depot is more popular with farmers because it’s easier to access if you’re driving a tractor or some other type of heavy machinery. We also operate a mobile tyre service which means we are able to come to customer if they prefer. We can fit or repair tyres literally anywhere.”

The mobile tyre service offered by WEST TYRE includes mobile tyre fitting, puncture repairs and roadside assistance. Tyres can be fitted on site, at home, on the farm or at work at a time that suits the customer.

“We have most tyre sizes on the shelf. If we don’t have a particular size, we will have it for you that afternoon or the following day. We can source any size or brand. While we have brands to suit every pocket, we recommend the premium brands because they are cheaper and safer in the long run,” Matthew continues.

WEST TYRE showed its appreciation for the support it receives from the local farming community by sponsoring the Mayo County Ploughing Championships which were held in Ballinrobe earlier this year.
“We were delighted to be associated with the Mayo Ploughing Championships. It’s our way of giving something back to the farmers who give us business on a daily basis. Everyone is connected to farming in the west of Ireland. The farmer’s wife is as important to us as the farmer himself because she is also a customer of ours,” says Matthew.
