Founded in 2004 by Tim Duggan, Enrich Environmental Ltd is an award-winning compost and soil manufacturer based in Co. Meath. Adhering to the famous Antoine Lavoisier quote “In nature nothing is wasted, nothing is created, everything is transformed”, Enrich is truly a soil supplier with a difference.
From the beginning, Enrich has concentrated on developing soil mixes and horticultural products to meet the specific needs of its customers, and all with minimal environmental footprint. The company is now the largest producer of peat-free horticultural products in Ireland.
Enrich’s research and development team has gained valuable knowledge about soil performance over the past decade which has provided the platform for its advisory service business. The company thrives on generating new ideas and finding better ways of doing things. Its solutions work in harmony with nature, are sustainable and cost-effective.
Soils form a vital part of the Earth’s eco system, being a medium for plant growth, a habitat for millions of micro-organisms, a recycling system for organic waste and a regulator of water quality. At all times, the environment is central to Enrich’s product development. The full benefits of recycling can only be attained when the resulting products are used to replace finite natural resources.
“We endeavour to displace virgin products such as peat and manufacture products from recycled materials, this is closed loop recycling,” Enrich Environmental’s Business Development Manager Kevin McCabe emphasises.
“When Tim and I worked as landscapers, we had lots of garden cuttings and it used to end up in landfill. It was only when we saw what was happening in other countries that we realised it’s a product that can be 100 per cent reused and transformed to quality products”.
“Enrich started out selling the compost made in our facility to householders, but as we grow we quickly learnt how versatile compost is. We developed arrange of mixes to suit many uses that landscapers, engineers, golf courses, racecourses and nurseries have. Each product is tailored to suit the intended application,” he adds.
Committed to promoting environmental awareness and creating a brighter future for generations to come, Enrich Environmental holds regular open days and school tours at its state-of-the-art composting and soil blending facility in Kilcock, Co. Meath. It also provides sponsorship to local organisations, such as the Tidy Towns and the GAA.
“We get great satisfaction from hearing about kids who went home after a school tour and told their parents about the benefits of using their compost bin. It’s all about educating people about recycling; that everything has a value. We recently started composting programmes in local schools, which are proving to be very popular with the children.”
The green material is composted in windrows and used as a component for different landscaping products, including soil conditioners, fine and medium grade mulch, bark, compost, topdressings, topsoil, lightweight roof soil and erosion control barriers. Customised mixes can be made to suit specific requirements.
Enrich has a range of 13 different products which are stocked by garden centres, hardware and DIY stores nationwide. The company’s horticultural products are specified by many leading landscape architects. Enrich was the first company in Ireland to be accredited under the Compost Quality Assurance Scheme CQAS-441:2012.
Products are available bulked and bagged with a nationwide delivery service provided. Enrich purposely doesn’t run its own fleet of trucks, opting instead to use local hauliers for deliveries. “It’s all about minimising waste and reducing emissions. That’s our whole premise,” Kevin says.
In addition, Enrich specialises in soil consulting. With the team provides a hands-on experience of the properties and performance of soil as well as extensive technical knowledge of methods of analysis and interpretation of test results.
This blend of practical experience and scientific understanding enables Enrich to provide an unrivalled soil consulting service. Enrich looks to soil performance issues by adopting an integrated approach which addresses the chemical physical and biological aspects of the soil.
Projects which Enrich has worked on include the M3 Motorway; Fairyhouse Racecourse and Navan Racecourse (both Co. Meath); Bord na Mona Visitor Centre in Lough Boora, Co. Offaly; Bord Gais Headquarters; Diageo St. James’ Gate, Dublin 8; Titanic Quarter, Belfast; Northwood Business Campus, Ballymun; Department of Environment Headquarters in Wexford; Dublin Zoo; Ferrovial, Ballycoolin, Dublin 15.
Enrich Environmental is a member of ALCI (Association of Landscape Soil mixing in progressContractors in Ireland) and CRE (Composting and Anaerobic Digestion Association of Ireland). The company has won a host of awards, including Green Technology Awards in 2013 and 2014 and the Cre Cup Award.
Enrich is proud to be at the forefront of compost and soil manufacturing in Ireland.
Kevin concludes by saying: “We were the first company in the country to be accredited under the Compost Quality Assurance Scheme CQAS-441:2012. It is very gratifying when other composting New John Deere combinescompanies come to us looking for advice. We have and continue to set the highest standards.”
