Malone Bros Construction Ltd (also trading as R&M Malone Bros Construction Ltd) provides exceptional shuttering, concrete works, groundworks and plant hire services across the South-East. Ray Malone explains more about the family-run business.
Based in Ballycarney, which is situated between Bunclody and Enniscorthy, Malone Bros Construction was established 12 years ago by brothers MJ and Ray Malone. Heartbreakingly, MJ – who was less than a year older than Ray – tragically lost his life in a work-related accident in July 2020. The father-of-two was a very popular young man whose death has left a huge void not just in the company, but also in the local community.
Ray has carried on the business with the help of three staff members. Catering mostly for the agricultural sector, it is engaged in the construction of slatted sheds, silage pit and milking parlours among other things.
“We pride ourselves in providing top quality work to farmers in our area,” the 34-year-old says.
“Most of our work revolves around shuttering tanks, retaining walls, slatted sheds, milking parlours silage pits, dungsteads, grain stores, yards and driveways. We’re also involved in some construction work like pouring floors and shuttering.
“MJ was a carpenter by trade and I was training to be an electrician when we decided to set up the company in 2010. We started out with a 12-tonne Hitachi digger and went from there. Being ‘Irish twins’ we were very close, so losing MJ was obviously a big blow to me. But you have to keep going and I’d like to think that we do him proud every time we go out to do a job.”
All grant work is undertaken by Malone Bros Construction, from digging out sheds to laying foundations. Quality workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of the Wexford-based contractor. Health & Safety is paramount, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. From start to finish, Ray and his team are with you every step of the way.
“We’re always busy. This is testament to the quality of our work, our reliability and the value-for-money we offer customers. Most of our work is secured through word of mouth, while we also get a lot of repeat business. People have been very loyal to us down through the years.
“We’re certified to carry out grant work which is very important because that is a big driver of our business. As farm-related construction work was deemed essential, we remained fully operational during the different Covid lockdowns. We never stopped working.
“With a slatted shed, we firstly dig out and put in the tank and fill in the backfill. We come back later to put in the foundations for the walls and slats. We basically leave everything ready for the farm building specialist who comes in after us,” Ray explains.
One such contractor Malone Bros Construction has worked closely with is Doyle Farm Buildings. Based in St Mullins, Co. Carlow, the company is run by Eamon Doyle and specialises in the fabrication and erection of structural steel and cladding for the agricultural, industrial, commercial and health and leisure sectors.
“We enjoy an excellent working relationship with Doyle Farm Buildings and others like them. We have a good understanding with them all.”
As well as having a wealth of experience, knowledge and expertise in the trade, Malone Bros Construction has an array of machinery and equipment to cater for all your shuttering and groundwork needs.
As someone who hails from a farming background, Ray has an acute understanding of farmers’ needs. His father Eddie runs the family farm in Ballycarney which consists of 180 beef cattle and 270 ewes. Ray helps out whenever he can and is grateful for the support he receives from his wife Oonagh who looks after their three young daughters, Annie (four), Elsie (two) and Sadie (one).
Passionate about his work, Ray would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support, and also his employees for their hard work, dedication and skill.
