The farm building specialists

24 Nov , 2015

Founded in 2003, Ramage Contracts has quickly established itself as a leader in the farm building and steel products – including steel stockholding and livestock gates – sector. From its base in north Co. Antrim, the family-run business can fabricate and erect any size of steel-framed building to your specification.

Ramage Contracts was set up by father and son Uel (Samuel) and Aaron Ramage in Ballymoney, which many a tourist has passed through en route to the Giant’s Causeway. Managing director Aaron is joined in the business by his sister Suzanne, who fulfils the role of office manager, and eight staff.

While Aaron is overseeing operations back at base, onsite erection is carried out by Uel and his team of experienced and qualified steel erectors.

“There are two sides to the business. I look after the fabrication in the yard and my father looks after the steel erection,” Aaron explains.

The Ramage’s have vast experience within the agricultural sector, while also specialising in industrial steel-framed buildings, which are fabricated from drawings by engineers using computer-aided design. They provide custom-made and self-erect kits delivered straight to your site. Their agricultural sheds can be fabricated to any height, length and width to your specific requirements. The Ramage Contracts team is with you every step of the way, from laying the foundations of your shed to shutting the door on the completed project.

Kit sheds are also supplied with everything you need, from roofing materials to guttering and cladding, and all to meet your specifications. Only the very best steel, sheeting, timbers and fixings are used in every job that’s undertaken by this highly-reputable company.

“While we do quite a bit of industrial work, the farm sector accounts for about 95 per cent of our turnover. The emphasis is very much on agricultural buildings and related products,” Aaron says.

“We can fabricate and erect any size of a shed. The majority of the sheds we build are made to measure. Milking parlours, hay sheds or grain sheds – no job is too big or too small.”

Ramage Contracts’ steel-framed buildings have been CE-marked since it became compulsory for all steel frames used in the UK last year. Steel frame manufacturers are now required to design buildings to relevant standards and have a quality control system which complies with the requirements of BS EN 1090-1.

“You have no place in this business nowadays if you are not CE approved. In spite of this, there are still a lot of non-CE approved operators out there who are undermining the industry and making our job much harder for us,” Aaron continues.

In addition, Ramage Contracts are specialists in steel stockholding and livestock gates. They stock a wide range of u-beams, flats, plates and brackets in their yard that are available to purchase in a range of sizes. If you would like to fabricate your own frame for your building, their steel is sold self-coloured or shot-blasted and primed.

At Ramage Contracts, they fully understand what a farmer needs when it comes to handling livestock. Their large portfolio of sheds are fitted with a variety of feed gates and feed rails for all types of livestock. They have a range of high-quality cattle management gates in stock, including calving gates, cattle races and portable hurdles. They are also a selection of sheep management systems available, including portable sheep race trailers and hurdles.

Ramage Contracts have fabricated and erected numerous farm buildings throughout Ireland and the UK over the past 12 years. It speaks volumes for the quality of their workmanship that much of their business is repeat.

“We have earned a reputation for quality, professionalism and value-for-money,” the affable managing director proudly states.

“While most of our work is concentrated on the north coast and in Northern Ireland, we also carry out a lot of jobs in the south and across the water in Scotland. We will go where the work takes us.”

Aaron explains how the burgeoning family business was able to grow through the economic recession because it wasn’t reliant on the industrial sector.

“Because farming wasn’t too badly affected, we weren’t too badly affected. We were fairly steady right through the recession. Our business continues to grow year-on-year. Our name, and our reputation for good quality work, is out there now and we are getting more and more enquiries every day. We can’t complain,” he concludes.
