Based in Crettyard, Co. Laois, A Wilson Engineering Ltd has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2015. Specialising in the manufacture of bale transporters, the company is best-known for its market-leading Super Move 10 product which has proven to be a big hit with farmers in Ireland and Germany in particular.
Recognising that time is precious in the agricultural sector, the company designs its machines with convenience in mind. Aimed at saving you time and money, its sophisticated bale transporters can be made to suit your exact specifications and can carry silage, hay or straw bales. The round bales can be wrapped in plastic or left unwrapped. The machines provide you with a strong, safe and more efficient way to transport bales.
“We’re a dynamic, forward-thinking company that offers solutions to the farming sector,” says Adam Wilson, who had been carrying out agri maintenance and repairs for local farmers before setting up his now thriving business.
“Bale trailers (transporters) have been around for a long time, but I felt there was a gap in the market for a better product and so went about designing the Super Move 10, which was launched at the 2014 National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co. Laois. I had made the prototype and tested it that summer. It got a great response at the Ploughing and took off from there. That first Super Move 10 was sold to a customer in Cork the following spring.
“The Super Move 10 was sold directly to farmers for the first year, but as things got busier, the need to establish a dealer network arose. Ryall’s Farm & Industrial Equipment in Watergrasshill, Co. Cork was our first dealer and we now have a number of others, including M&S Machinery in Cashel, Co. Tipperary, Andrew Lacey Farm Machinery in Ferns, Co. Wexford, Martin’s Garage in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, Whelan’s Garage in Kilrush, Co. Clare and Bannon’s Machinery in Athlone. It makes perfect sense to have dealers in these locations as 99% of our customers are contractors providing a service for farmers in their local community.”
The affable managing director continues: “It speaks volumes for the quality of our products that, with the exception of Whelan’s Garage, the other dealers came to us looking to sell them. Our first sale outside Ireland was to a customer in New York State in the spring of 2016. We started exporting directly to customers in Switzerland and Germany in 2017 before starting to distribute through dealers in those countries as well as in Norway and Holland last year. We also began exporting to the UK in 2018 and sold our first transporter in Hungary this year.
“Germany and Ireland are our two biggest markets. We’re growing at a rapid pace in our new markets and our staff has grown accordingly.”
The Super Move 10 is designed to revolutionise your bale transporting method. It transforms the painstaking task of transporting bales into a simple, one-person job. The machine is user-friendly, safe and has a robust design. The Super Move 10 requires two double acting hydraulic valves to operate, eliminating the need for any electrics, and comes with superior craftsmanship. As with all Wilson Engineering products, it is built from the ground up by Adam and his five-strong team. From the frame to the paintwork, everything is manufactured inhouse using high-quality materials and modern blasting and painting systems. Indeed, all products are painted with electrostatic coating systems.
Super Move 10 features include 550/45 22.5 wheels painted to the colour of your choice and robust lifting cage panels with easy-to-access grease point. Its fully automatic hydraulic system features self-loading and unloading, carries wrapped or unwrapped bales, is a one-person operation and can transport up to 80 bales in an hour. Features as standard include double tail lights, mudguards, robust bogeys, commercial axles, fully automatic safety latching system, drawbar height adjustment, shot-blasted, primed and painted with an industrial two paint-pack system.
Wilson Engineering’s other bale transporter models are the Super Move 6, the Super Move 8 Single Axle, the Super Move 8 Tandem Axle and the Monster Move 12 Tandem Axle Standard. Capable of transporting 12 round bales at a time, the Monster Move 12 is the largest machine in the range and has, in Adam’s words, “taken off in a big way in the last year”.
Options available on all models include a sprung drawbar (customisable to customer’s requirement), a pneumatic braking system with load sensing, steering axle, steering drawbar, reversing lights, extra strobe lighting and full tyre options from 550/45 22.5 up to 710/40R 22.5.
“We introduced the sprung drawbar and load sensing airbrakes options in 2016 when it became fully legal to travel on the road at 50km. We were the first on the bale transporter manufacturer to offer the load sensing option,” recalls Adam who is only 28.
“The following year, we introduced tyre options from 550/45 22.5 up to 710/40R 22.5 and last year, we introduced our steering axle option and a steering drawbar option. We’re always looking at ways to improve our products and to stay ahead of the competition. We listen to our customers and give them what they want.”
Adam initially manufactured fertiliser spreader bogeys before deciding to concentrate on his range of bale transporters.
“I started off making fertiliser spreader bogeys. The two models we manufactured here on site were the Single Axle Bogey and the Double Axle Bogey. But the demand for our bale transporters is such that we’re putting all our focus on them at the moment. However, we haven’t forgotten about the bogeys and will go back to manufacturing them at some point in the future.”
Adam is always happy to discuss your bale transporter needs and advise you on which of his machines suit your requirements.
