Despite mixed weather conditions Munster Agricultural Society’s Cork Summer Show 2016 was an epic event, drawing thousands of show goers from all over the country.
With national agricultural competitions including cattle, sheep, goats and horse breeding, as well as the All Ireland Cook Off 2016 (Craft Butchers Association of Ireland) and the National Tug Of War Championships among others, crowds came from 19 counties to participate and experience one of Ireland’s most loved shows.
Supported by Cork County Council, the voluntary committee of the Munster Agricultural Society co-ordinate a show that has attracted audiences as large as 50,000 in the past.
“This year’s Cork Summer Show has been exceptionally successful, with participation across most competitions exceeding previous years’ entries, and a marked increase in the number of traders exhibiting. The mammoth event went off without a hitch, with record attendance on Saturday in good weather. While the wet weather on Sunday wasn’t ideal, the crowds still turned out and spirits certainly weren’t dampened by the persistent drizzle,” said Munster Agricultural Society Chairman Gerard Murphy.
The Chariman also paid tribute to the working committees of the Society and over 250 volunteers and employees, whose work effort ensures the success of the show each year.
