Quality farm buildings since 1989

1 Jun , 2023

Specialising in the erection of farm buildings and industrial units since 1989, Tom Riordan in Bruree, Co. Limerick recently branched out into the supply of wastewater treatment systems.

Renowned for its expertise in the fabrication and erection of structural steel, Tom Riordan Farm Buildings Ltd provides a one-stop solution to a wide and varied customer-base. Tom and his highly-skilled crew offer a range of farm and industrial / commercial buildings which are manufactured to the highest standards and to your exact requirements.

Tom runs the business with the help of his wife Carmel, sons Dan, Jack, Sean and Tomás, and four other staff. Quality workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Tom Riordan Farm Buildings. Health & Safety is paramount, and never more so than since the Covid-19 pandemic. From concept to completion, the Riordan team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new shed is built and designed to your specific needs.

The company’s ability to complete projects within the agreed timeframe and budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied customers.

Tom Riordan Farm Buildings is a sister company of Riordan Construction, which specialises in the supply, installation and commissioning of wastewater treatment systems. Established in 2021, the new venture has hit the ground running and complements the existing business.

“It has slotted in well with the farm buildings side of things,” Tom enthuses.

“Anyone building a new house now has to install a bio-treatment system by law, so there’s a growing market for what we’re doing.”

As a package, Riordan Construction can supply your wastewater system as per your planning guidelines, install and commission it with certification. The company will supply you with a five-year maintenance contract and will service your tank every 12 months. Unlike other suppliers who charge in advance for your five-year service, Riordan Construction carries out services yearly, thus keeping money in your pocket when you need it most.

Farm buildings, however, remain the core business. From groundworks to installing doors and mats, Tom Riordan Farm Buildings has got you covered.

“It’s easier for farmers to deal with one person than using different individuals for steel and concrete. The farmer is spending a lot of his hard-earned money in one outlay and he needs to get a good product as well as good advice. Once he gets a robust and high-quality building that’s finished well, then he’s happy out.

“I don’t come from a farming background myself, but I’ve seen people making huge mistakes with their farm buildings down through the years. Putting that experience to good use, I’m in a position to provide very good advice and it’s then up to the farmer to decide whether or not to take that advice on board.”

Covering the Munster region, Tom Riordan Farm Buildings is a certified supplier of CE marked structural steel to the requirements of EN 1090 to and including Execution Class 2 (EXC2), which covers the fabrication of all farm buildings and structural steel used in general construction. Since July 2014, under the Construction Products Regulations (CPR), it has been a legal requirement that fabricated structural steelwork delivered to construction sites must be CE certified.

“With farm building accounting for 90% of our work – industrial buildings make up the rest – we need the agri sector to be doing well and thankfully that seems to be the case at the moment. Dairy farmers are getting great prices for their milk which is good news for us because we rely on them for business.”

Only the best products and materials go into making a Riordan shed. The company’s main suppliers are Gleeson Concrete, Irish Roll Forming, Croom Concrete, F&M Fasteners, Hetion Buckley, Cahill’s Homevalue Hardware, Irish Pump Services, General Hardware, AT Doors, Duggan Steel and Cembrit Fibre Cement.

“We deal with the same tried and trusted suppliers who we have built lasting relationships with over many years,” Tom adds.

At the time of writing, Tom had eight different projects on his books, including a new calf shed, a new milking parlour and concrete tank for storing parlour washings, and a new service station in Holycross, Bruff, Co. Limerick.

As a family business, Tom Riordan Farm Buildings prides itself on providing a personal, transparent and friendly service. “We’re direct and open. Anybody who is thinking of getting some work done can call out to our house and I will go through everything with them in detail. When we sign up the contract, I’ll specify what the payments are going to be, outline exactly what they are getting for their money and give a precise timeline.

“It’s important to be upfront with people. The way I operate, everything is on the table from the word ‘go’ and there are no hidden agenda or costs.”

Tom is full of praise for his small, but dedicated team who are a mix of steel fabricators, welders and erectors. “I’m very lucky to have good people working for me. They’ve been very loyal and can turn their hand to any job, which is important in this game.”

In summary, Tom Riordan Farm Buildings is committed to providing a top-quality product and service at the most competitive price. All of the buildings are solid, secure, attractive in appearance and are built to last.

Tom would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their hard work, dedication and skill.
