Newhouse Farm Services Ltd has been providing an exceptional contracting service to farmers in the north-east for almost 30 years.
Based in Termonfeckin, Co. Louth, the company was founded in 1995 by Paul Flynn and continues to go from strength to strength. Paul started out working for a local contractor before investing in his first tractor – a CASE IH 5140 – and going out on his own. His services include pit and baled silage, slurry spreading, dung spreading, ploughing, tilling, sowing, bulk fertiliser spreading, straw and hay baling (round and square) and wrapping.
“My father worked as a transport manager in Monaghan, but we had a small farm and that’s where my passion for agri contracting and machinery came from,” Paul explains.
“I worked with a local contractor who did silage and eventually took over from him. We grew the business and the client-base. Our customer-base has actually decreased in recent years, but that’s because the farms are getting bigger. A lot of the smaller guys have gone. We have one customer who has gone from milking 80 cows to 800. About 90% of our customers are dairy.”
Paul is joined in the business by a small but dedicated team which includes his 21-year-old son Conor, who was part of the first class to graduate from Ballyhaise Agricultural College with a qualification in Mechanical Engineering. “We have three full-time staff and one part-time. It’s great to see the next generation coming along.”
Committed to providing superior service and complete customer satisfaction, Newhouse Farm Services has an array of machinery to carry out your work quickly and efficiently, providing you with value-for-money and an alternative to investing in your own expensive equipment. The contracting firm’s success can be attributed to the knowledge, experience, skill and expertise of its staff as well as the quality of its machinery. Paul and his highly-skilled and highly-motivated team deliver the value and quality farmers expect from their agricultural contracting partner.
Paul runs a stunning fleet of CASE IH tractors which were purchased from Mid-Louth Garage Ltd in Ardee. Of his five tractors, four are less than two years old with a CASE IH Puma 260 being the latest addition. He also runs two Puma 240s, a 160 and a 2008-registered CBX 195 which, in his own words, “will never be got rid of.”
“I drive it myself. It’s part of the furniture at this stage,” he smiles.
“We’ve had a great relationship with Mid-Louth Garage going back to 1995 when I bought my first tractor off them. We’ve also purchased a lot of other machinery from them down through the years.
“Our other suppliers include Quaile Machinery in Skerries, Leinster Farm Machinery in Duleek, McGee Farm Machinery in Dunleer and Clarke Machinery in Cavan.”
Newhouse Farm Services’ grass machinery includes a Pottinger wagon, Krone triple mowers, a Kverneland 30ft rake, a McHale 550 round baler, a Massey Ferguson 2270xd square baler, two Broughan 28 ft bale trailers, a Goweil bale wrapper, a Volvo L60 loading shovel and a Manitou 732 telehandler.
“We cut about 1,000 acres of pit silage and make 8,000-10,000 silage bales every year. We also make up to 10,000 bales of straw and hay,” Paul reveals.
For slurry, Paul operates two Major 2,600-gallon tankers with trailing shoes and a 4,000-gallon Red Rock tanker with a 10m trailing shoe. For tillage work, he has a Lemken five-furrow reversible plough, a Lemkin 6m power harrow, aSamco maize sower, a Pottinger grubber and a Kverneland Accord one-pass system. Other pieces of kit include a Teagle 14t dung spreader, a Bredal K65 fertiliser spreader and a Herron dump trailer.
All machines are maintained and serviced on a regular basis to avoid downtime, with most of this being carried out in-house. Machines under warranty are sent to the main dealer.
The affable agri contractor has built up a large and loyal client-base across Louth, Meath, Dublin and Monaghan.
“There is a lot of competition from contractors in the area, so you won’t get work unless it’s the best of the best,” Paul points out.
“We’re lucky to have loyal customers who have stuck with us through thick and thin. With nearly three decades of experience to fall back on, we fully appreciate the importance of providing a prompt, clean and efficient service at highly competitive prices.”
Newhouse Farm Services is a member of the Association of Farm Contractors of Ireland (FCI) which was formed in 2012 to give agricultural contractors a voice at Government and EU level. The FCI’s other objectives are to promote good contractor / farmer relationships; to promote the benefits of a good agricultural contracting service; to provide members with knowledge and courses to help them run their business; to promote a good working relationship between contractors.
The long-established contracting firm would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as its team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
