These are exciting times for MC&S Agri Sales Ltd which was recently named New Holland’s ‘Ireland Dealer of the Year 2022’ for a third time and is gearing up for the opening of its brand new Bandon depot later this year.
Established in May 2009 and a New Holland dealer since March 2010, MC&S Agri Sales was delighted to receive the prestigious award at the 2023 Dealer Meeting in February. The event, which celebrates excellence in performance and service quality across New Holland’s UK and Ireland network, was held at its Basildon plant.
The awards were presented by vice-president of New Holland Agriculture Europe, Sean Lennon, and David Rapkins, New Holland’s new Business Director for the UK and Ireland.
“I would like to express my congratulations to the 2022 New Holland Dealer of the Year winners,” Mr Rapkins said.
“These awards are created to motivate and encourage all our dealers to drive business growth. We acknowledge and thank the whole team in each dealership which includes service, parts, marketing, administration support and all the sales teams. 2022 was a very successful year for New Holland and our dealers which shows the excellent team-work across our whole dealer network.”
The success completed a hat-trick of successes for MC&S Agri Sales who were previously honoured in 2015 and 2020.

The next big event on the horizon for the award-winning dealership is the opening of its new purpose-built 18,000 sq. ft. premises in Bandon. The state-of-the-art depot, which is being built on the existing site on the Cork Road, is due for completion in September.
“We cannot wait for it to open. It will help us to grow the business and the brand. It’s ideally located on the road to West Cork and just before you approach the ring road. So anyone coming to or from West Cork has to pass it,” Lorraine adds.
Bandon will become the new HQ for MC&S Agri Sales which also has a depot on the Link Road in Ballincollig. That was opened in 2010, followed in 2014 by the opening of the Bandon branch, which is being completely rebuilt. MC&S Agri Sales was founded by John McCarthy, who is an experienced New Holland salesman, and Gordon Sullivan, who was a long-time New Holland customer before becoming a dealer himself. The business has grown to employ 18 people who are involved in sales, parts, administration, maintenance and repairs.

“When John worked for Jim Murnane, who used to be the New Holland dealer for this area, Gordon and his dad John bought their tractors from John,” explains Lorraine.
“They also bought New Holland and Ford from OK Tractors before that. So there is a long history with the brand here.”

“There is something for everyone in the New Holland range,” Joint-Dealer Principal John McCarthy points out.
“We supply new and used machines, and carry a huge amount of parts in stock. We’re very, very busy which can be attributed to the record prices farmers are getting for their milk and grain. When dairy and tillage farmers are doing well, so are we. The surge in construction has also boosted sales of our construction products.
“We sell everything from tractors, balers, toppers, attachments and ploughs to light construction equipment. We sell a lot of backhoe loaders to the local authorities.”
2022 was a bumper year for the Cork dealership which sold 47 new and 15 ex-hire tractors. According to John, the most popular New Holland tractor models are the 135hp T6.160, which is the only compact 6-cylinder tractor on the market with rated power below 140hp, and the 197hp T7.230, which is part of the extended T7 family.
“The T6.160 mostly appeals to dairy farmers who put a loader on it and use it for various tasks. The T7.230, on the other hand, is most suited to agri contracting. We also stock a large selection of used tractors which are mostly New Holland. About 80% of our trade-ins are New Holland.”
