Celebrating 35 years in business, Martin Fox & Sons Construction Ltd is a one-stop shop for all your agricultural and industrial building needs in Monaghan and surrounding counties.
Since 1990, Martin Fox and his top-class team have been synonymous with quality farm buildings in the region. The family business offers a wide range of buildings which are manufactured to the highest standards and to your exact requirements, and is renowned for its expertise in the fabrication and erection of structural steel.
From milking parlours to grain sheds, slatted units to machinery storage sheds, garages, silage pits, underground tanks as well as walls, gates, commercial and industrial buildings, Martin Fox & Sons Construction has the experience and expertise to deliver all work in-house, including CE-certified steel and professional concrete shuttering. The Mullyash, Castleblayney-based operation aims to not only meet, but exceed its customers’ expectations.
Quality workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of this fully-insured business. It goes without saying that Health & Safety is paramount. From concept to completion, the Fox team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new shed is built and designed to your specific needs.
The company’s ability to complete projects on time and within budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied clients. Furthermore, Martin Fox & Sons Construction is a certified supplier of CE-marked structural steel to the requirements of EN 1090 to and including Execution Class 2 (EXC2), which covers the fabrication of all farm buildings and structural steel used in general construction.
Since July 2014, under the Construction Products Regulations (CPR), it has been a legal requirement that fabricated structural steelwork delivered to construction sites must be CE-certified. Indeed, farmers can’t apply for grant aid if they’re not dealing with a CE-certified company.
“All our work is CE-certified and grant approved. We do everything by the book,” Martin explains.
“We’ve been CE-certified since it became compulsory and pride ourselves on our product and service. We offer the best advice and can help farmers with their grant applications. Once you get grant approval, you have a year in which to build your shed.
“There is a new 60% slurry storage grant with a specific €90,000 ceiling on the way which I’m sure many farmers will be availing of. The main investments available at the 60% grant rate include manure pits, precast tanks, circular slurry stores and geo-membrane lined stores.
“We work well with farmers and build sheds exactly the way they want them built. All of our work is secured through word of mouth and recommendations which speaks for itself.”
The fact that Martin provides a complete package is another reason why customers keep going back.
“We do everything and that’s definitely a big help. A lot of farmers prefer to have one man coming in to do it all, and that’s the service we provide. Every job is different. Also, you can work in a better rate when you are doing it all. Farmers like a bit of value, the same as the rest of us, but my main focus has always been on quality.”
Martin is joined by an eight-strong team of erectors, roofers, fabricators and welders which includes his sons, Gavin and John. Indeed, oldest son Gavin was only three weeks old when the affable Monaghan man founded the business on June 1, 1990. Martin’s daughter, Shirelle, who is an accountant by profession, looks after the accounts and wages as well as handling the paperwork to keep quality and Health & Safety certification up-to-date. His wife, Pauline, has also been a major help behind the scenes. Everybody has pulled together to make the second-generation business the success it is today.
“We’d be nothing without our fantastic crew. A lot of the men have been with us a good few years so they have huge experience and know exactly what they are doing,” adds Martin, whose base is only half-a-mile from the border with Armagh and Northern Ireland.
Business is thriving for Martin Fox & Sons Construction which is currently constructing industrial units for local companies TD Freight and Shane Tyres. “Farm buildings used to account for 90% of our workload, but now it’s 60% agri and 40% industrial. While most of our projects are local, we have gone as far south as Ratoath and Ashbourne in Meath,” the managing director reveals.
Only the best products and materials go into making a Fox shed. The company’s main suppliers are Duggan’s and Chadwicks for steel, Loughran’s, Wright’s and Roadstone for concrete, Carville’s Tool & Weld for welding products, fixtures and fittings, Wilson’s Steel for sheeting, flashing and guttering, and RJ Hardware Supplies for rebar and steel reinforcement.
As Martin Fox & Sons Construction continues to go from strength to strength, Martin would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their hard work, dedication and skill.
Here’s to the next 35 years!
