Enniscorthy Farm Systems Ltd (EFS) is a market leader in the supply and fitting of dairy and cattle housing equipment. Founded in 1998 by Ibar Murphy and Peter Prendergast, the company supplies a wide range of products, including DeLaval milking equipment.
The business partners acquired the renowned DeLaval brand following the closure of Roche & Cleary Dairy Services in Enniscorthy, who they had both worked for. EFS provides everything from milking machines, augers, feeders, meal bins, backing and cow drafting gates, cow cubicles, barriers and gates to head locking barriers, automatic scrapers, slat rubber, cubicle mating and pressure washers.
Over the past two decades, the Co. Wexford-based concern has established itself as a leading advisor and supplier of equipment to the farm yard. It is recognised as one of the foremost housing specialists in the south-east in the provision of handling equipment to the dairy and cattle sectors. EFS offers free consultation and advice – gained from over 30 years’ experience – on planning the best handling facilities. As well as DeLaval, the company is an authorised agent for Easyfix rubber mats and a wide range of products, including cubicles, calf equipment, fencing equipment, feed barriers, dividing gates, slurry scrapers and crush equipment, from such reputable names as Nugent Engineering, Condon Engineering, Jourdain Feed Barriers, Teemore Engineering and Alfco Engineering.
“We originally specialised in milking equipment before expanding into cattle housing equipment,” explains Paddy Murphy, who is involved in the business with his parents Ibar and Margaret.
“We can offer advice to farmers on the equipment that best suits their requirements and on the planning, design and layout of their sheds. We provide a complete service to the dairy farmer and are your complete farm store.”
EFS’s 12-strong staff includes a team of DeLaval-trained engineers and fitters who provide on-farm milking machine service, maintenance and 24-hour breakdown cover, 24/7, 365 days a year. They have a wealth of experience in milking machine maintenance and service. Whether its new parlour installations, modifications and updates, service and testing, breakdown cover or advice on mastitis you are looking for, they are just a phone call away.
EFS were the first DeLaval dealers in Ireland to provide a route van service to farmers in their area. Calling to in excess of 300 farms every month, the van is well stocked with over 100 popular and cost-effective products, including detergents, descalers, filter socks, liners, paper towels, udder creams, footbath solutions and spare parts. Also supplied are iodine and chlorhexidine-based teat dips which achieve a fast kill of bacteria, spores and other mastitis causing organisms. Each month, there is a special offer which provides great value for the farmer.
It goes without saying that EFS is proud to fly the flag for DeLaval in the south-east. DeLaval is a world leader in the dairy farming industry, providing integrated milking solutions designed to improve dairy farmers’ production, animal welfare and overall quality of life. Working closing with customers in more than 100 countries across the globe, DeLaval offers automatic and conventional milking systems, cooling and feeding systems, effluent and housing systems and farm management support systems. DeLaval customers can also choose from a wide range of services and consumables which are grouped in four portfolios: liners and tubes, farm supplies, service and original parts, and milk quality and animal health.
Enniscorthy Farm Systems guarantees the lowest prices on all DeLavel products. If you can find a better price, they will match it.
DeLaval has seen a dramatic increase in sales of its robotic milking machines since the lifting of the EU milk quotas a year ago. DeLaval VMS milking robots are renowned for their operating efficiency and robust, around the clock performance. They enable the dairy farmer to harvest up to 3,000 litres of milk per day per robot and come as standard with four quarter milking and mastitis detection index (MDi) milk analysis technology, among other things.
With the introduction of the VMS Plus+ and the unique range of tailored VMS solutions, DeLaval are taking robotic dairy farming to the next level. Other robotic systems offered by the milking parlour heavyweight are the VMS Supra Management, the VMS Supra+ and the VMS Spectra.
“DeLaval has been in Ireland for over 50 years and is now entering its next phase with the introduction of its robotic milking machines which are designed to work in grazing systems,” Paddy points out.
“We installed our first robotic machine for a farmer in Kilmuckridge last year and the feedback has been very positive. We have orders to install eight more robots this year, so they are certainly growing in popularity. While the robot is more expensive than the conventional milking machine, the cows are more relaxed with less stress and increased grazing time. The system also requires less manual labour and gives the farmer greater flexibility. Everything runs like clockwork.”s, a. Calling to over 300 farms
