Hanlon Machinery Ltd offers the highest levels of service and expertise when it comes to being a John Deere dealer. Company sales manager Martin McDonnell gave Irish Tractor & Agri the lowdown on the Dundalk-based business and the new deal they have in place with Brian James Trailers.
The first few months of 2017 have saw plenty of John Deeres flying out the gates at Hanlon Machinery Ltd and they wouldn’t have it any other way out in Haggardstown.
Established in 1981 by Michael Hanlon, the company has built a solid reputation with their extensive customer base as hard-working, dedicated and reliable John Deere dealer.
Martin McDonnell has been part of the team in Dundalk for a little over six months now and gave Irish Tractor & Agri some insight about the ins and outs of the company, while also revealing how business has been as of late.
“I’ve been the Sales Manager here since last August and altogether we have 10 staff working here in our Dundalk base,” said Martin
“We’re very busy at the moment and we’ve already sold a lot of tractors this year. There has been a big difference even in the last year or so and machines like the 6155 seem to be very hot at the minute and are selling well.
“We’ve some Big M machines sold as well this year and there seems to have been a big jump in recent months.”
A family-run company, Hanlon Machinery Ltd stocks a full range of new John Deere equipment and non-John Deere machinery including Overum Ploughs, JF Silage Harvesters, Sulky Fertilizer Spreaders, HE-VA Tillage equipment and Fella Grass Equipment such as Mowers, Rakes and Tedders.
In addition, they carry an extensive range of genuine John Deere spare parts which are competitively priced, as well as the full range of John Deere merchandise.
Towards the end of 2016, the company became an authorised dealer for Trailertek NI Ltd – an official Irish distributor for Brian James Trailers – in counties Louth, Meath and into north Dublin.
Since its establishment in 1979, Brian James Trailers has been crafting a diverse range of quality trailers and have had an ever growing number of customers which have been recommending its products to others.
The deal means that Hanlon Machinery Ltd now offers a full range of Brian James Vehicle transporters and Commercial multi-purpose trailer ranges.
“We were approached by Brian James last November,” explained Martin. “They arrived at the premises here and we liked what they had to say, so we went up the north to Trailertek with them and were very impressed with what we saw.
“Trailertek’s products are of good built quality and come with a five year warranty. An excellent trailer – it really is. We are very happy with it here.”
Going by Martin’s tone, it seems that the feeling within Hanlon Machinery Ltd is that they’ve landed another gem product in becoming a sub dealer for Trailertek.
With regards to John Deere, it also goes without saying, of course, that it is one of the most recognised and trusted brand names in much of the world, especially in countries rooted in production agriculture.
When it comes to servicing your machine it makes sense to only use genuine maintenance parts and lubricants which are designed and approved by John Deere.
Regular maintenance saves money too and Hanlon Machinery Ltd guarantees that you and your machine won’t be idle for too long.
Louth, Cavan, Monaghan and Dublin are the areas that the company covers when it comes to its services regarding John Deere, with former Dublin hurler Colm Brennan working around the latter, while Michael and Martin look after the former three counties.
Colm, whose nephew Trevor played rugby with Leinster and Toulouse and also has 13 caps for Ireland, has been a popular member of the team since joining Hanlon Machinery Ltd and is well known for looking after his clients in an excellent manner. Colm’s daughter is also capped by the Irish women’s rugby team.
Martin doesn’t have any caps for Ireland (that we know of) but, like Colm, has become a valued member of the team at Hanlon Machinery Ltd since joining at the end of last summer.
When you ask him why he feels the company’s clients choose them first ahead of other competitors, he’ll tell you that they’re service has a lot to do with it.
“Hanlon Machinery would be widely known for its excellent service,” Martin outlined. “It’s a family-run business, with three family members, and they pride themselves on their company’s service.
“As I said, they have a lot of tractor sold again already this year and the business has been growing quite substantially. It’s building more and more and we want to service our customers and service them well.
“There’s always someone on the other end of the phone for our customers here.”
