Looking for manufacturers of quality animal feed products in Ireland? Look no further than Denn Agri who, since its inception in 1980, has developed a reputation which is the envy of many of its competitors.
Established over thirty years ago in Cappoquin by Pat Denn, Denn Agri is a leading manufacturer and supplier of a wide range of premium animal feeds across the ruminant, sheep and equine range.
All Denn Agri animal feed, both coarse and pellets are manufactured on site at their County Waterford base and their products are driven by research, innovation, and quality.
Guided by dedication, honesty, and integrity, Denn Agri has a simple philosophy, only the very best quality assured raw materials including local grains and distillers equal the very best animal feed.
Managing Director Pat is joined in the running of the ever-burgeoning business by his fellow director Pat Clancy, his daughter Gillian (Technical Manager) and Gillian’s husband Aidan Moher (Operations Manager).
Employed by Denn Agri for the past seven years, Aidan’s role is all encompassing: “In an operation our size, I look after everything from transport down to overseeing production in the mill,” he explained to Irish Tractor & Agri.
“The company was started in 1980 and have upgraded the mill extensively over the last number of years which has resulted in a 50% increase in capacity.”
The company’s state of the art mill ensures consistent product quality whether its coarse ration or pellets and they provide a nutritional and advisory back-up service to ensure optimum production at all times.
Their purpose built grain handling facilities dry and store grain for use in both Denn animal feeds and for further use in the food and drink industries.
After a comprehensive Department of Agriculture process, Denn Feeds were awarded a medicinal premix licence and this is testament to their continuous investment in its milling operation.
Gillian, meanwhile, is hands-on in pricing and administration as well as providing back-up for the company’s sales staff.
A vital ingredient in their successful formula, Denn Agri’s sales team boast decades of experience in supplying fertilisers, chemicals and all agricultural inputs to a wide ranging customer base while their agronomists assist growers in Cork, Tipperary, Limerick and Waterford to produce quality crops which are dried and stored in their purpose built stores.
“Our sales and nutritional staff are always on hand to ensure your dairy herd, big or small, are reaching there potential,” Gillian pointed out.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have an exceptional team of sales people out on the road as well as a comprehensive technical back-up.
“Our customer base stretches from Urlingford and Johnstown in Kilkenny to Tipperary and Mallow in Cork. We’ve approximately 3,500 to 4,000 customers on the animal feed side.”
Denn Animal Feeds have formulated an excellent range of balanced compound dairy and beef feed, available in both pellet and ration.
They recognise the need for high yielding dairy cows to receive precise high quality feeding and this ensures excellent yield and milk quality, no fertility issues and minimal health problems.
Their animal feed sheep range includes a lamb muesli, lamb fattener and ewe cubes while all special dietary requirements for Dairy, Beef, Sheep and Equine are welcomed by Denn Feeds.
Their excellent in house software coupled with decades of expertise take the hassle out of finding a specific feeding formulation designed to maximise your stock.
Agrochemicals is also an integral part of Denn Agriculture. Their aim is to provide their customer with a service that allows them to have confidence that crops will achieve optimum yield, quality and price.
An extensive range of agrochemicals for cereals, root crops, maize and grassland are stocked in their purpose built warehouse while a highly efficient and prompt delivery service is also provided by Hazchem trained staff.
As regards Grass Seed, Denn Agri – who provide employment to 25 – formulates and mixes all grass seeds on site in Cappoquin.
“What we say on our label is what is produce,” replied Aidan when asked: what separates Denn Agri from their competitors. “We never skimp on quality and the result is a very good quality feed.”
Gillian added: “We’re also extremely flexible in our supply and production.”
A policy of continuous investment in their plant and machinery is a cornerstone of their approach to business and Denn Agri have no intention of resting on their laurels.
“We have more plans for expansion in the pipeline for 2015,” Aidan revealed. “We never standstill that way.
“We’ve been quiet this winter compared to other winters but we’re not alone there. The quota has put a handbrake on things at the minute and the weather has been particularly mild but, with the quota, our main aim is to be flexible in our supply and products.
“We want to continue what we’re doing but on a slightly bigger scale.”
