3 Jul , 2024

Carbery Group and BiOrbic’s Farm Zero C project has won two awards at the 2nd National Dairy Awards which took place in the Midlands Park Hotel in Portlaoise on June 13th.

The National Dairy Awards recognises the dedication, innovation and hard work across the dairy sector from primary producers to dairy processors. It also highlights the great work industry leaders are doing in areas such as sustainability, marketing and innovation.

Farm Zero C took home the Award for Best Dairy Research Programme/Project and best Dairy Sustainability Initiative of the Year. Our school’s to farm programme was also recognised, getting an honourable mention in the Dairy Marketing Campaign of the Year category.

Jason Hawkins, CEO of Carbery Group commented: “We’re delighted that Farm Zero C has been recognised as a beacon of sustainability innovation in the dairy sector. Sustainability is one of our core business priorities at Carbery and, as a co-op, has always been intrinsic to how we operate, and to take home two awards amongst our peers is a proud moment for us.

“I also want to acknowledge our School to Farm programme, which received a runners up prize in the Marketing Campaign of the Year. This is an important scheme to highlight farming as a viable and exciting career for young people in West Cork, who are pivotal to the future success of our communities. I want to thank all those involved in putting the initiative together.”

Enda Buckley, Director of Sustainability at Carbery Group added: “Farm Zero C is a unique project which is creating a model for climate-neutral farming in Ireland and beyond. The farm’s climate footprint has reduced by 27% since the start of the project in 2018.

“With BiOrbic, we’re immensely proud of what we have achieved to date, and it’s a huge testament to all our partners, farmers and our employees that work on Farm Zero C to take home two awards. I want to thank them all for all their hard work as the project goes from strength to strength. And of course a particular thanks to our sponsors Science Foundation Ireland, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and AIB.”

Carbery would also like to congratulate Agri Data Analytics, who won the Dairy Innovation Recognition of the Year Award, which we sponsored.
