Building from experience

26 Feb , 2016

Millions of euro is spent by farmers each year on their farms as the necessity to have farm buildings that meet all regulation needs is essential.

We all like our comfort and farm animals are no different and for farmers to get the best out of their stock, a proper housing environment has to be in place.

There are many companies in this country that specialise in farm building and for this month’s edition of Irish Tractor & Agri, we profile one such business.

Kerry based Lixnaw Fabrications was established in 1989 by Tommy Molyneaux and for the last 26 years, the company has been supplying an excellent service to an ever-increasing customer base.

Based in Lixnaw in the north of the county, Lixnaw Fabrications has built up a wealth of experience over the years as Tommy and his wife Margaret who is also a director of the company have worked hard to get to where they are today.

“I had worked with the Kerry Group as they were known at the time and I decided to go out on my own in the late eighties. We have a purpose built facility and we have been kept going ever since,” said Tommy.

“Of course, there are times when we were busier than others, but we would have a good bit of repeat custom and although things are not as good as they used to be, we are still working away here.”

There are many needs to be met when involved in farm building and no two projects will be the same. That is where Lixnaw Fabrication can tailor for the customers’ needs and give solid advice to them when needed. People’s expectations of farmyards differ, but any change made should make life simpler.

“No job is the same, but we know that and can adapt to whatever the customer needs. We are long enough in this business now to have an idea of what they want.”

The company specialises in the fabrication and erection of structural steel and cladding for the industrial, commercial, agricultural and leisure sectors.
“We would have all the necessary certificates to manufacture our products from the department spec S101 standard to the E.U and C.E traceability markings that are coming into the industry.

“There is a lot more paperwork these days, but it is for the benefit of the industry and we have met all the requirements asked of us.”

Lixnaw Fabrication has established a first-class reputation within this industry through a balance of competitive prices, commitment to quality, customer satisfaction and proven capabilities.

“We source all of our materials from long established, quality suppliers and can offer lengthy warranties to all our customers. All our cladding would come from Tegral. Quality is essential to us, right from the start, we always said that we would deliver on quality and not be taking shortcuts to make a few extra quid. It is a stance that we have always taken and always will.”

Health and Safety is of course a big issue as Tommy and his team leave no stone unturned when it comes to ensuring that all requirements on this front are met.

“It is our policy to carry out all works in conformance with all Health & Safety Legislation, Construction regulations and insurance requirements. We are CE certified also.”

When it comes to farm building, the Kerry based firm are unrivalled in the south as their services have been required all over Munster and further afield as well.

“We have a wealth of experience in the agricultural sector and about 95% of our work would be in this area. From the design stage right until the work is completed, we work with the customer to ensure that they are happy with the work we are doing.

“Our aim is to make the process of purchasing your building as smooth as possible, while also achieving the end result you will be expecting and be proud of.

“We offer all our customers assistance with the design, planning and choosing of the correct materials. All units are designed to meet their needs and intended use. A full after sales service is also provided.

“The housing of livestock, dairy, beef, poultry and pigs would be where we do most our work, but we have completed some big projects in other industries as well.

“We would have a very experienced workforce, many of who have been with us years now. They have played a huge part in the success of the company.”

If Lixnaw Fabrication were to be described in one word, than ‘solid’ is one that springs to mind. Their experience sees them provide a quality service and product, while their ability to complete a project on time has also earned them rave reviews.

“Business is quieter than usual at the moment, but we’re hoping that things will pick up in the near future, we’ll keep working away anyway and make sure the customer is happy with the work that we do.”
