A one-stop shop for farm buildings

19 Apr , 2017

Since 1998, Ryan Brothers Construction is a family-run business based in County Waterford that specializes in the design and construction of a full range of farm buildings. We travelled to their workshop in Ballymacarbry to meet with John Paul to discuss the full range of products and services offered by this family business.

This company is a one-stop shop for any type of farm buildings including milking parlours, dairy and beef housing units, grain stores, kits shed, slurry storage tanks, walls and silage pits. Ryan Brothers also fabricate all kinds of gates and barriers and provide a full range of design, steel fabricating, steel erecting cladding and concrete construction services, this in turn eliminates the need for any additional subcontractors, resulting in better planning, quality finishes and cost savings through higher efficiency.

All steel is fabricated in the workshop using the highest–quality steel, which can be shot-blasted, primed and spray painted or hot-dip galvanized. Designs are carried out using the latest CAD software therefore farmers can be shown a 3D model of what they are going to get.

This family-run business has designed and constructed farm buildings of the highest standard in counties such as Waterford, Kilkenny, Tipperary and East Cork.

John Paul Ryan runs the company along side his brother Maurice. John Paul holds a degree in construction management and has experience working as a site engineer and Maurice has a degree in agricultural science and engineering.

In discussing their services John Paul says: “We specialize in all types of farm buildings, including all concrete work and all internal fittings. We pride ourselves on the quality of the work and are CE-certified to EN1090 Execution Class 2. We have a wealth of experience of all kinds of dairy units, milking parlours, handling facilities etc. We have been fortunate enough to build up a strong and loyal customer base over the years.

“We cover everything from drafting to design to 3D modeling and all the fabricating. The building can be constructed efficiently and within the designated timescale and as there is no need to involve any sub contractors the farmer only deals with us. We make ourselves available to the farmer at all times.

“The fact that we are from a farming background ourselves means we have an understanding of farmers’ requirements and we go out of our way to make sure these needs are met.”

Ryan Brothers are specialists in milking parlour construction, with experience of all types of parlours from herringbone to robotic as well as full knowledge of all milking machine manufacturers and suppliers. Typically they can build a 20- unit herringbone parlour inside three weeks.

“You are offering quality materials and service and cutting down on costs by eliminating sub contractors and completing the job rapidly in one operation, with no downtime whatsoever,” John Paul notes.  ‘Its a win win for farmers as they are getting high quality buildings at considerable savings. We see every project through from start to finish and pride ourselves on our proven reputation for delivering buildings on time and within budget.

“We also carry out small-scale industrial projects, including a concrete batching plant for Roadstone, tarmacadam production plant for Kilsaran and a waste composting plant for Glenville Environmental Systems and we hope to expand this side of the business”.

Looking to the future the prognosis is very encouraging for Ryan Brothers Construction. “Our name is on every job and we value are name,” says John Paul. “We intend to be in this business for a long time and we are not going to let our standards drop.

“We’re in the heart of dairy land here and there is a lot of potential over the next four to five years, especially with the TAMS II grant in place,” John Paul concludes “Our main emphasis will continue to be to provide a quality service from start to finish for our clients.”

Ryan Brothers Construction is approaching its 20th anniversary and one gets the distinct impression that there are many more landmarks ahead for this family business.
