“I set up on my own on April 21st, 2008,” he answered when asked to trace the roots of his burgeoning contracting business. “We run a dairy farm and I also worked for a local contractor for three years before going out on my own.
“I started from scratch and employ three part-time men (Sean, Diarmuid and Jimmy) during the busy summer months with two additional men who provide a back-up service when required.”

How is business going at this point in time? “Every year is picking up. If the milk and beef prices are good the farmer has more money to spend but we’re also very much at the mercy of the weather. You could be on the go for three days and then parked up for a week.
“The baling side of things is very weather dependent. Then the price of diesel and price of plastic are serious issues at the moment.
“What will the future hold, who knows? I would be optimistic, however. Dairy is expanding big time but the weather and running costs are the two key things in this business.”
