In Ireland, hedges are of exceptional importance as habitats, particularly for birds but also for wild flowers, shrubs and trees and provide food and shelter for birds and other wildlife and enhance the diversity of nature in our countryside.
However, from time to time our hedges and trees need to be cut back or in some cases removed if they are a danger to society. This is specialised work that must be carried out by professional tree surgeons.
Hedge or tree cutting is some of the most dangerous work out there and safety is paramount. Anyone involved in this industry must be highly trained, while experience in these situations always helps.
For this month’s edition of Irish Tractor & Agri, we profile Meath based Clear Cut Ltd and speak to managing director Jim Murray about the services that they provide.
Established over 21 years ago, Clear Cut Ltd has accumulated a wealth of experience in the industry, which has led to them working with customers in both the public and private sectors.
From their base in Duleek, Co Meath, the company covers a wide catchment area that covers parts of Meath, Dublin, Kildare and Louth.
“We have been dealing with all sorts of customers over the years from private to domestic and commercial customers. We are tree surgeons with many years’ experience our team is fully qualified, insured and highly skilled,” said Jim.
A staff of seven highly trained tree surgeons ensure that any job undertaken by the company is done in a safe, professional manner, with customer satisfaction guaranteed.
“All our tree surgeons are fully trained professionals and we have the expertise needed to advise you on the best tree care options that suit you or your business. If you need something from hedge trimming around your home to a large scale felling job around your business our team will be able to help.
“Our Staff understand that our clients have specific needs and we are always happy to provide advice and guidance on the care and management for your trees. We know that our domestic customers may need some guidance through the process and our team is more than happy to help.”
For the past 20 years, Clear Cut Ltd have been employed by the ESB to carry out work in the Drogheda, Dublin, Leixlip and Kilcock areas.
“Our work for the ESB sees us trimming back hedges or trees that are close to power lines. Health and Safety is a massive issue and one that we take very seriously. We ensure that everything is being done in the proper manner,” added Jim.
“Normally we trim the branches back a safe distance. However, if the trees are in an unstable condition and there is danger they could fall on the electricity line we will cut them down completely.”
Jim feels that regardless of the problems that may face them on any job, they have the wherewithal to find the right solution to carry out the work in a safe manner.
“Through working with our wide customer base we have built the knowledge and confidence to be able to carry out any work our customers may need done to the highest of standards. This is why we have many happy customers who use our services again and again.”
Nothing but the best of equipment is used by the team, which enables to get through the work efficiently. “Our health, safety and quality of work standards are exceptionally high and we make sure to use the best tools and techniques available. We are willing to provide no-obligation advice and quotations.”
The company offers a 24hr emergency service also and given the unpredictable weather in this country, this is an area that keeps them busy usually through the winter months.
“We have worked with many different businesses and understand their specific individual needs. We have also worked with stud farms as well as many other farms around the country.
Some of the services that we provide to our customers include site clearance and dangerous tree removal, wood chipping, tree care and maintenance, hedge cutting, utility line clearance, emergency call outs, stump removal, crown reduction and pruning of all types.
