A powerful outfit

Jim Power Agri Sales Ltd in Co Waterford are main agents for Deutz Fahr, Krone and Amazone and have been specialising in the sales and service of all types of machinery for almost a decade now. Irish Tractor & Agri recently found out more about what the business has to offer.

Running an agri sales dealership over these past nine years will have been no easy feat for any company but somehow the people at Jim Power Agri Sales Ltd have managed to make it work.

A well-known dealership located in Tallow, Co Waterford, Jim Power Agri Sales Ltd is a dealer for Deutz Fahr tractors and the Krone range along with several other farm machinery brands.

As the name suggest, Waterford native Jim Power is the company’s Managing Director and his business also provide its customers with repairs and servicing for all types of farm machinery.

Brendan Culleton came on board with the company two years ago and was able to fill us in on what they’re all about and what they’ve been up to lately.

“The address here is Kilmore West, Tallow, Co Waterford and we’ve been established since 2009,” Brendan explained.

“We have 11 staff working here right now and I’m one of them. I’m a salesman here and I joined the company two years ago.

“We are main agents for Krone, Amazone, Abbey Machinery, Spearhead, AR-BO Cut, DG Loaders, Bunning and we are also main dealers for Deutz Tractors and Equipment in Cork and Waterford.

“So we sell and service all types of machinery – Deutz, Krone and Amazone would be the main brands – and we also stock parts for everything that we sell here.”

Jim Power Agri Sales has earned itself a glowing reputation for selling Krone Big Ms throughout the Munster region and is the first stop for many agri contractors when it comes to this particular machine.

The Krone Big M is the world’s biggest and most successful self-propelled mower. Krone first introduced the Big M in 1996 and it was the first SP high-capacity mower conditioner. Since then, the Big M’s story has been a successful one as it achieves work rate of up to 20 hectares per hour.

“For Krone, we would be covering from Kilkenny to this region and then with the smaller brands we tend to concentrate more local,” Brendan stated.

Another attraction for certain clients of Jim Power Agri Sales is the Krone Big Xs that they have in stock.

Last year the Jim sold five Big Xs which “created a lot of talk about the company”, according to Brendan and it was something that they were very pleased with.

Overall things have been going well for the company in recent times, with the economic downturn having had an effect on machinery sales nationwide.

Jim Power started this company in the early part of the recession during 2009 and it has since weathered the storm to the point where it is now thriving again.

“At the moment we’re very busy,” said Brendan. “We are concentrating on getting things ready for silage season right now and things have really picked up recently for us.

“The downturn affected everyone in this line of work. But people are back buying tractors again now thank God and we’re looking forward to what will hopefully be a busy year for us.”

It’s all a far cry from where Jim first started out in this industry, working for what would now been viewed as the competition.

“Jim started selling machinery in McCarthy’s in Carrigtwohill and decided to go out in his own then in 2009,” Brendan outlined.

“By that time he had gained a lot of loyal customers that trusted him and he had a lot of experience with Krone machinery.”

So what’s the secret? How has Jim Power gone from a small start-up to now employing 11 staff and selling some of the best machinery which big name agri brands have to offer?

“In my own opinion, I think it’s because he’s very genuine,” Brendan put it simply.

“He gives a very good back up service to his clients. He’s very personal with every deal and it’s black and white and he’s known for selling Big Ms around the country.”

2017 will be about more of the same for the company, according to Brendan, with the hope of gaining some new customers along the way and moving into their brands new premises soon.

“We want to sell as much as we can, keep the customers we have and get new business as well. We just bought a new premises outside of Tallow which we’re hoping to get into as soon as possible,” he concluded.
