Managing director David Grant and his top-class team of erectors, roofers, fabricators and welders have the experience, knowledge and equipment to deliver farm buildings of any size, from slatted sheds to milking parlours, calf sheds and sheep units. They are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including Mark Dunne who undertakes both electrical and plumbing works.

The company’s ability to complete projects on time and within budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from satisfied clients. In addition, David Grant Farm Buildings is a certified supplier of CE marked structural steel to the requirements of EN 1090 to and including Execution Class 2 (EXC2), which covers the fabrication of all farm buildings and structural steel used in general construction.
Since July 2014, under the Construction Products Regulations (CPR), it has been a legal requirement that fabricated structural steelwork delivered to construction sites must be CE certified. Indeed, farmers can’t apply for grant aid if they’re not dealing with a CE certified company.
“We offer exceptional services to our customers,” David says.
“We pride ourselves on our product and service. Most jobs that come up in the area, we get them. We rarely have to travel any more than 20 miles. We work well with farmers. Coming from a beef farm which I run with my father William and which turns around 1,600 beef cattle a year, I know how cattle think and what way a shed should be positioned. It’s very important that you get those things right from the start.
“We offer the best advice. All of our work is secured through word of mouth and recommendations which speaks for itself.”
He continues: “With the support of our subcontractors, we can deliver the full package. We’ll dig the tank, supply and erect the shed. We’ll even do the wiring and plumbing. While we can do part or full builds, most of our customers opt for the latter. They don’t have the time or don’t want the hassle of having to do it themselves.
“It suits us too because it allows us to stay on the same site for longer. No two jobs are the same and that’s the way we like it. You can’t beat having that bit of variety.”
Only the best products and materials go into making a Grant shed. The company’s main suppliers are Heiton Steel, Euronit (formerly Tegral) for cladding and flashings, Toolfast for fixtures and fittings, Castle Paints, Smyth’s Concrete, Banagher Precast for slats and Cecil Drought, who supplies Condon Engineering products such as gates, neck rails, cubicles and crushes. It goes without saying that David Grant Farm Buildings enjoys an excellent relationship with all of its suppliers.
The company carries out its own fabrication, welding and spraying at its workshop. It also calls on Gleeson Steel in Gortnahoe from time to time to weld steel frames and make up sheds.
David is full of praise for his small but dedicated crew who can turn their hand to any job. He also regularly collaborates with Brendan O’Rourke, who helps out with the fitting of cubicles and gates on larger projects.
Business is good at the moment for the farm building specialist who recently completed works on a new milking parlour in Roscrea, calf sheds in Cloughjordan and Toomevara, and a 140-cubicle shed in Ballacolla.
“I built my first milking parlour about seven years ago and am now doing five or six of them a year. The demand for milking parlours is being driven by the large number of new entries to the dairy sector,” he explains.
