Seamus Brett established JMB Brett & Co Ltd in 1989 and today is joined in the running of the business by his sons, Brendan and James.
“I come from a farming background and built houses for 20 years,” Seamus informed Irish Tractor & Agri magazine. “I started building my first house when I was 18. The first job I did was our own slated house. I was left waiting for someone else to do it so I decided to do it myself and went off and got the materials. I’m at it ever since. We’ve built the odd house but it’s all farmers work that we specialise in now.”
Experience and know-how are the cornerstones on which the continued growth of JMB Brett & Co Ltd is built on and they possess all the machinery and equipment necessary to conduct their work both on budget and on time.
“We carry out a variety of jobs for farmers from slated tanks, silage walls and slabs while we also do machinery sheds and milking parlours. We’re building a bridge across a river at the minute.”

“We’re extremely busy at the moment,” Seamus revealed.
What are the secrets of their success? “We are specialists in what we do and if we say we’ll do something, we’ll do it,” he answered. “We don’t leave a job until it is completely finished to the customer’s satisfaction. We also take pride in good workmanship that we can stand over. We don’t cut corners and that is something we are well known for.”
That explains why they services are very much in demand at the moment.
Their local knowledge, combined with a positive and collaborative approach to the task in hand, continues to generate significant levels of repeat business and the team at JMB are proud to have established many long-term working relationships with numerous farmers dotted throughout their catchment area.
“We cover Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon, approximately a 50 mile radius from Charlestown. We carry out a lot of repeat work as well which is a good sign. As is the fact that we have never had a complaint about anything. The job is always done right!
“If farmers have money, they will spend it and the same farmers come back to us. We’ve done three to four jobs for different farmers at this stage.”
