Cremin Dairy Services in Co Cork has been an authorised distributor for Dairymaster for almost 30 years now. Irish Tractor & Agri learned all about the business when we caught up with Managing Director John Cremin recently.
Business has been booming as of late at Cremin Dairy Services and keeping up with demand has rarely been a problem for John Cremin since setting up his company.
The Cork native has been operating a successful business for the past 35 years now and in that time Cremin Dairy Services has amassed a glowing reputation for the work it carries on a day-to-day basis.
The company employs two full-time staff, while John’s wife Teresa is also a director and helps run the office end of the business as well.
John himself outlined the services that Cremin Dairy Services when Irish Tractor & Agri caught up with him recently.
“We’re based in Kanturk, Co Cork and the company was set-up in 1982, so we’re going 35 years now,” John explained.
“Basically what we do is install and service all milking equipment and whatever Dairymaster do; we do the same.
“When I started this business I started it on my own and I got the distributor with Dairymaster in 1988.”
Dairymaster is a world leader in dairy equipment manufacturing and operates from its head office in Tralee, Co Kerry, as well as having operations in the UK and USA.
Next year will see Cremin Dairy Services marking 30 years since coming on board with Dairymaster and John, for one, has been delighted with the decision he made almost three decades ago.
Dairymaster’s milking equipment has been designed to have the lowest levels of liner slip, excellent milk out and lower shear forces on teats which is better for udder health.
Along with this milking equipment, Cremin Dairy Services provide feeders, automatic scrapers, parlour wash pumps and water pumps for their customers all over the north Cork region and elsewhere.
John explained that right now business is thriving and with silage season now just around the corner, Cremin Dairy Services also operate a breakdown service for its customers which is second to none and “basically 24/7”, according to the Managing Director.
“We’re very busy at the moment,” he said. “At this time of year we’re always busy with customers getting ready for the spring and summer seasons.
“In this business, we’d be covering the north of Cork, east Kerry and south Limerick so we have a decent sized radius there and we’re happy with that range we cover and the clients that we have.”
Indeed the clients that Cremin Dairy Services have been with the company for a long time. It has got to the point now where John is dealing with the sons of the men that he used to work with, which is all part of the parcel for him.
John has worked throughout many different areas around Cork, Kerry and Limerick over the past 35 years and has managed to earn his company a first rate reputation along the way.
“The way it is now, we’re going into second generations of families with some of our clients,” he said.
“We’d have started with their fathers years ago and now it has got to the stage where their sons are taking over and we’re now working with them.”
The trust between Cremin Dairy Services and its clients is evident for all to see. But why does John feel it’s still there after so many years?
“First of all, I feel that we operate a very good service here and the fact that we can pick up Dairymaster equipment so easily is a big draw for our clients,” he stated.
“Mostly though, I think it’s the good service that we provide and the Dairymaster name is out there so much now that it has got to the point where it is world-renowned.
He added: “It’s also important to note that we do parlour wash pumps, water pumps and feeding barriers as well for our customers. I’d also be dealing with Teemore Engineering up the north when it comes to carrying parts for customers.”
Now, fast-approaching the halfway point of 2017, John says he’s happy about where his business is at the moment and is very positive about the future.
He views the current milk price as a big positive for the industry and is as optimistic as he’s ever been in the last 35 years for Cremin Dairy Services.
“The fact that the milk price is actually on the up is putting a good boom in the system against,” he stated.
“Farmers are being encouraged to spend again, compared to a couple of years ago, and it feels like there’s a bright future ahead at this point in time.”
Here’s hoping, John.
