Teemore Engineering Ltd is a leading manufacturer of cow cubicles and is the UK and Irish distributors for Jourdain livestock tubular products, Bioret mattresses and floorings systems, Richel storage tunnels and also distributes Easy-fix rubber products throughout the UK.
Specialising in cattle, sheep, goat and equine equipment as well as general engineering, this Fermanagh based firm has established a reputation for providing a loyal and efficient service to a large customer base.
For this month’s edition of Irish Trucker, we profile the company and speak to Sales Manager Nicky Johnston about the services that they provide.
First, let’s take a look at the background of the business and to do so we must go back over 40 years when Teemore Engineering Ltd was established in 1973 by Mr Victor Wilson (Director) producing car and tractor trailers and other agricultural products. Over the years a definite line of quality livestock equipment has evolved and the main focus today is fitting out all types of beef and dairy buildings.
The success of the business has been ongoing throughout the years and just two years ago, a purpose built factory and office suite was constructed at their site in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, which ensures that they have the necessary facilities to remain a leader in the field of livestock equipment.
Teemore Engineering not only manufacture their own products, but they are the sole distributor for Jourdain livestock tubular products in Ireland and the UK. Along with Bioret mattresses and floorings systems, Richel storage tunnels and also distribute Easy-fix rubber products throughout the UK.
“We would have 20 dealers throughout Ireland who sell our range of products. Our reputation certainly precedes us at this stage. There would be plenty of competition in this industry, but when it comes to quality, we would be unrivalled,” said Nicky.
“Our products would make up 25% of the cattle handling equipment market. We are the market leaders and our competitors would be trying to copy us, and it’s a full time job to remain innovative.”
Teemore’s strategy to Research, design, manufacture and distribute high quality livestock products which are fit for purpose has been one of the secrets to their success over the years.
“Our aim is to provide a quality product and achieve customer satisfaction with a dedicated customer care service, while we are also looking to establish growth in each market in which we are currently involved.”
Some of the innovative products designed by Teemore include the fast empty drinker designed and manufactured by Teemore and they developed an excellent reputation for comfort and quality amongst farmers.
“Our in-house manufacturing and the large stocks we carry give us the necessary flexibility to satisfy each and every need in a time that is acceptable.”
The success of the company can be gauged by the amount of repeat custom that they have on their books. “The end user of our products are the Farmers and a lot of them would choose our products over other brands.
“We have service teams throughout Northern Ireland and we would do some installation work. If it makes the customer happy than we are pleased to do whatever it takes.”
Nicky revealed that Teemore Engineering have a site in the U.K where they manufacture and supply their range of products to a bigger market.
“The yard in Shropshire was set up 18 months ago and it’s been going very well. There is a bigger market in the U.K and we are pleased with the progress that we have made over there.
“We have invested heavily in new machinery as we know that it is important to keep up with the latest technology to help us produce an even better range of products.”
Recent trials have confirmed that the use of hutches can bring calf mortality rates down to 2%, or possibly lower, under the widest range farm conditions.
“But this is only the starting point. It takes a number of weeks for a calf’s immune system to fully develop, during which time it can become predisposed to a number of factors which can lead to the onset of disease and, subsequently, death.
“Increasingly, dairy farmers now recognise that calf hutches tick all of these boxes. In our own case, we stock the Agri-Plastics’ range. Manufactured in the United States, they come in single and group calf rearing options.
“We opted for the Agri-Plastics’ range because it is the ‘gold standard’, in terms of what’s on the market at the present time. For example, the quality of the plastic is such that the hutches block out the sun’s rays, thereby ensuring that calves are not subject to wide variations in temperature. They are also extremely robust, therefore guaranteeing a long, usable life.”
Teemore Engineering is an environmentally friendly company and are continuously endeavouring to reduce their carbon footprint.
“We strive to continually reduce our environmental impact by driving efficiencies within each of our departments. We endeavour to recycle and use recycled products where possible.”
