Founded in 2000, MMD Construction has grown to become a progressive and dynamic building and civil engineering company. Chairman/Director Kevin O’Leary filled us in on some of the agricultural-related projects which they’ve undertaken in recent years.
Based in Farmers Cross in Co Cork, MMD Construction offer an extensive range of services, befitting a major construction company in the Irish market place, including design and build, pharmaceutical, healthcare, civil/infrastructure, education, commercial/residential projects, historic building restoration and general construction.
In recent years, the company has dipped into a couple of projects related to the agricultural industry, so we felt it was time to catch up with director Kevin O’Leary to learn more.
Since its inception more than 16 years ago, the focus at MMD has been on client satisfaction and they’ve always believed in the need to understand the client’s needs and work towards satisfying those expectations.
MMD have secured a number of repeat client contracts and know it’s down to their approach on Quality, Safety, Technical and Financial planning.
The company is committed to building stronger partnerships with clients through honesty, integrity, and a complete understanding of the building industry.
Kevin O’Leary makes up one third of MMD’s Board of Directors and has over 20 years of experience in the construction industry.
Kevin’s role sees him with the overall responsibility for the organisation & project management of all Commercial, Civil & Industrial projects carried out by the company.
Two years ago, he oversaw MMD’s project at Dairy Gold in Mallow, Co Cork as its director, which involved the construction of a new Milk Intake Building, Milk Storage Bund as well as a new Pasteurisation/Separation Building.
“The project at Dairy Gold Mallow began in June of 2014 and was up and running by March 2015,” explained Kevin.
“It consisted of numerous different aspects, including a new Milk Intake Building and a Pasteurisation/Separation, along with all of the associated site works.”
With over a 100 years of Co-Op heritage, Dairy Gold is a company which prides itself as “Ireland’s leading farmer-owned dairy and agri co-operative that delivers sustainable global solutions” and the fact that MMD Construction were entrusted as a part of Dairy Gold’s huge development at two new plants, in Mallow and Mitchelstown, speaks volumes about the Cork firm’s efficiency.
MMD’s work on the Dairygold project at Mitchelstown consisted of the construction of a new milk intake extension to the existing facility.
The works of this project included; civil works to facilitate the installation of a new dryer in Niro 3 building, upgrade works to the bag off area, construction of a new dairy, removal of weighbridge, construction of a new dispatch area including the provision of dock levellers, along with all associated civil works.
Other past clients of MMD include Bandon Co-op at Farm Lane in Kinsale, Co. Cork, where they completed works for the Co-op which has numerous different departments in its store for its customers, including an Agri & Farm Requisites section.
The project at Farm Lane included the construction of a new detached store and yard, provision of new wall and roof sheeting to existing building; internal alterations to convert the existing store into a retail shop area and all associated site works.
Once completed, Bandon Co-op was another on the long list of successfully carried out projects for MMD since its inception in 2000.
The company prides itself in its capacity to apply optimum professionalism in the management of all projects. Their personalised and meticulous approach to the construction of buildings of intricate design and distinction is the distinguishing factor upon which the company’s reputation for excellence in project delivery is based.
The performance of MMD depends on its people. At MMD they recruit personnel of the highest calibre, fully qualified in the various professions and all of their personnel are fully trained in their particular craft or area of expertise.

Health and safety is a paramount at MMD and fundamental part of the company’s philosophy. They have a policy of continual improvement and setting of safety objectives in line with the framework laid down within OHSAS 18001 and Safe-T Cert.
The company’s safety performance is second to none and can hold its own on a statistical front with the best in the country.
To consolidate the efforts being made at MMD, they retain the services of an independent external auditing consultant to carry out regular on the spot audits, this allows for an unbiased snap shot of how each site is performing at a given time. The results of these audits are scored and the information is fed back to the company directors and management team.
