The MAJOR Slurry Info Day was held on Friday December 11th at the MAJOR depot in Ballyhaunis. The event was organised in response to customers’ requests for more information about the changes facing Irish farmers from GLAS and TAMS II schemes.
Applications for these schemes have been submitted already, but many farmers and contractors were expressing uncertainty about what system was most suitable for their particular operation. “The TAMS II scheme is encouraging a move towards a more environmentally sound method of slurry application,” explained Martin Walsh from MAJOR Equipment. “Legislation and regulations will eventually prohibit the spreading of slurry by the traditional splash plate method,” he said.
There are plenty of manufacturers of slurry application equipment to choose from but the options available can be bewildering, with some products not suitable or appropriate for Irish conditions. The event attracted over 250 people interesting in making the move towards dribble bar and trailing shoe slurry application systems.
“We’re delighted with the turn out,” said Martin. “Some people have travelled long distances from all over the country including Kerry and Kilkenny. Many of our dealers were also present here today to help their customers. The feedback we’ve received is very positive. Customers have said they found the day extremely beneficial,” concluded Martin.
