Agricultural contractor Thomas Devane Ltd has been satisfying the needs of its loyal customer base ever since 1982. Offering a wide range of services, the family-run business is able to assist farmers in meeting their goals – quickly, efficiently and reliably.
Thomas Devane Ltd provide a complete range of agricultural contracting services within 25 miles of its Lispole base on the Dingle peninsula in West Kerry.
Regardless of your requirements, they can offer a service that exceeds your expectations. Thomas and his team work fast and efficiently so there is minimal disruption to your farm.
Their commitment to the local farming community is second to none and they provide good honest service taking pride in every job.
The agricultural contracting business initially came into being after Thomas’ father, James (Seamus) Devane, who had a single chop harvester at his disposal, was asked by a neighbour to cut silage.
“We were working on silage at home and the business just took off from there,” Thomas recalled. “We started out with a tractor and side mounted harvester, adding on more machinery as we went along. We currently employ 12 to 14 people at the busy times of the year while my wife Mary looks after the paper work,” added the father of twins, Hannah and Mary.
“Quite a few of our customers have been with us from the start and we appreciate the support of all of our customers. We’d like to thank them all for their support over the years.”
If you ask any of Thomas Devane’s customers why they have stayed loyal to him, they’ll probably answer it’s because of his unwavering commitment to ensuring the job is done right.
Thomas Devane Ltd’s extensive fleet of nine tractors (consisting of eight John Deere and one Valtra) and associated agricultural machinery enables them to provide a comprehensive service for all farm contracting requirements. Their range of services includes ploughing, slurry services, re-seeding, lime spreading, digger work and plant hire.
Their attention to detail when it comes to the needs of the local farming community sets them apart from the competition.
“A big thing at the minute is the umbilical chord slurry,” revealed Thomas who recently added two brand new McHale fusion balers to his fleet of machinery.
“We weren’t crazy busy in the early part of the year but that’s to be expected. Our busy time is from April through to September. The weather is, of course, a big issue but we enjoyed a very busy 2016 despite the weather being poor enough.”
Thomas Devane Ltd’s high-quality workmanship, friendly staff, and punctual services ensure that they been able to maintain their excellent reputation.
“We pride ourselves on doing the job right.
“The only probably negative from last year was the low price of milk. Obviously, we’re totally dependent on farmers and what I saw last year, the price of milk was so bad in Spring, when the farmers are under pressure, we’re under pressure.
“The cost of maintaining machinery and spare parts is another issue but agricultural contractors will always be here so hopefully it will be okay for a while looking ahead to the future. We’ll stick at what we know best and and I’m sure that things will be okay.”
Agricultural Contractors are able to provide the farmer with a cost effective and useful alternative for many of their farming operations and Thomas Devane Ltd’s personal aim is to deliver all of their services in an efficient manner at competitive prices.
