7 Apr , 2022

WestendAgri supply a range of feed ingredients, additives and merchant products into the agricultural sector within both Ireland and the UK. Irish Tractor caught up with two of their team – Managing Director, Dermot Hughes and Commercial Manager (Ireland), James White.

WestendAgri supply an effective route to market, understanding every stage of the supply chain and providing full accreditation from raw materials to end customer delivery.

Their customer service team have over 30 years’ experience working within the industry, offering a wide range of logistics capabilities, including both liquid and powder bulk tanker deliveries, IBCs, big bags and 25kg palletised goods.

Working with their supply chain partners, WestendAgri operate from several strategically located storage facilities in both territories with services including chartering and discharge of bulk vessels, destuffing containers, full repack facilities and delivery to end user manufacturing mill sites as well as direct to farm.

WestendAgri specialise in supply-chain, storage and repacking facilities for crucial feed components and their comprehensive product range currently includes: Magnesium Oxide, Feed Phosphates, Feed Grade Urea, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Sesquicarbonate, Caustic Soda Pearl, Hydrated Lime, Dri-Li Extra, Feed Fats, Oyster Shell, Bredol emulsifier and Salt.

“We have a strong infrastructure in Ireland with stores located in Munster, Leinster and Ulster and this provides the backbone to our customer service,” explained James White who joined the company in 2016.

“In addition to our product range, one of the main advantages for our customer base security of supply based on our established store infrastructure. Whether it is an issue with order patterns or an increase in customer demand this network enables us to differentiate ourselves and minimise supply interruptions.

“We’re working with people from the very bottom of West Cork right up to the very top of Ireland. We maintain regular contact with our customer base and over the course of a year we are dealing with the vast majority of feed mills and premix companies within Ireland.”

Dermot echoed those sentiments: “In addition to product portfolio, personnel and market knowledge, local infrastructure is a key factor.

“I think another important facet of our business is our experience within supply chain. Many of our longstanding supply relationships operate on an exclusive basis. WestedAgri provide a route to market supported by our Supplier’s commitment to deliver consistent volumes. This strength within the supply chain effectively minimises the potential for customer disruption.

“Even during the challenges of the past 18 months, based on this combination of Supplier support and local infrastructure we have been able to maintain continuous supply.”

It is this infrastructure combined with a partnership approach to their Suppliers that enables WestendAgri to maintain the security of supply, flexible deliveries and competitive lead times so critical to their end users.

“We have a long-established reputation and our high standards of service are maintained by working with our supply chain partners, whether it be manufacturers, stores or hauliers,” Dermot outlined.

James added: “Customer satisfaction is key and this can only achieved by working closely with our sub contractors who store and deliver materials on our behalf.

Not content to rest on their laurels, WestendAgri aim to continue to develop their product portfolio to enable them to meet the needs of their customer base.

“In addition to our existing range of products, we are interested in continuing to develop our portfolio offer,” Dermot revealed. “At the end of the day, we are a service provider offering consistent quality materials on behalf of our suppliers.”

Dermot concluded by reinforcing the principles which form the foundations of WestendAgri’s business model…

“With 30 plus years’ experience in the Agri sector we can provide our Suppliers with independent market access, combining team know-how, logistics network and portfolio strength.

“We aim to offer a flexible and sustainable approach whilst maintaining a cost effective route to market for our customer base.”
