Set in concrete

The farmer has always been the “backbone” of Tracey Concrete’s business. Sales Manager Kevin Collins tells Irish Tractor & Agri how the Fermanagh-based company has never forgotten its agricultural roots.

Established by Managing Director Patsy Tracey, Enniskillen-based Tracey Concrete has been supplying precast products to the farming industry for over 30 years.

“We started as a readymix concrete company, selling to the local farming community, then branched into small concrete piping and the company hasn’t looked back since,” Sales Manager Kevin Collins, who has been with the company for the last four years, outlined to Irish Tractor & Agri.

“It’s a competitive market but we pride ourselves on our long involvement in the agricultural sector and we know what the farmer wants and that’s quality products.”

Quality is paramount when it comes to Tracey Concrete’s agricultural product portfolio which includes gang slats for dairy and beef, support beams, passage slabs, mixing points and head-to-head cubicle beds. They also specialise in the manufacture of bespoke products to the agricultural sector.
Down through the years Tracey Concrete has welcomed back many previous customers.

“We find that our reputation get us across the line,” Kevin remarked. “We do a lot of repeat business, even with second generation farmers whose father would have dealt with us before.

“We looked after the farmer in good and bad times. A lot of our competitors forget about the farmer but we’re reliant on their industry. We’ve a vast range of non-related farm products but the farmer has always been the backbone of our business.”

Tracey Concrete currently supply a large range of gang slats and all slats are manufactured in accordance with BS 5502 using high strength 60N concrete.

Their slats have a durable, smooth yet non slip surface manufactured to the highest standards improving animal comfort and welfare ensuring optimum beef and milk yields.

Support beams, meanwhile, are manufactured in lengths from 2100mm–3900mm with a loading capacity of 6T as standard. Beams with an increased loading capacity can be manufactured to meet the client’s requirements.

As regards Passage slabs, they are manufactured in depths of 200mm–250mm using prestressed hollowcore units and can be manufactured to exact lengths required.

As each passage slab loading is different from one tank to the next, Kevin and Tracey Concrete’s sales team will discuss exact requirements with the client/farmer and design a slab to meet those requirements.

Safety manhole slats/slab allow for easy yet safe access to the slurry tank to allow for the agitation and spreading of slurry. Their mixing points are compatible with all types of mixing/pumping systems.

Safety slats are made using the same profiles as their gang slats thus allowing for the fitting of them at a later stage if required.

Solid mixing points are available on a width of 1100mm–1350mm depending on length and all mixing points come with a galvanised safety grill, concrete inserts or galvanised steel cover depending on which best suits your needs.

Tracey Concrete Ltd manufacture concrete cubicle beds to suit practically any cattle housing situation.

From calves to adult cows, in single runs or head to head, on existing floors as a relocatable unit or as part of a precast suspended system over an under floor tank , with a range of division options, cast into the bed in our works or on site assembly.

Modern machinery, computerised batching and distribution systems along with an experienced workforce of approximately 60, enable Tracey Concrete Ltd to produce consistent high quality products.

“We have been in the farming community for over 40 years which has allowed us develop and manufacture products with the farmer in mind. They rely on us to ensure optimum safety and comfort.

“We also have an agricultural team on hand to devise and discuss farmers’ requirements from the early stages of planning even prior to contract with no obligation.

“We carry out a lot of work in the south and being VAT registered in Ireland ensures customers can claim the VAT back on Tracey products the very same as they would from a company in Cork or Kerry.”

The company’s Enniskillen headquarters is home to four large pre-cast factories and two ready mix concrete plants.

“We’re a very strong company who did nothing stupid during the boom times. We carry a large range of products which enables us to supply our customers when we say we’ll supply them. There’s no such thing as a product going out of here fresh and a large contract can be met at short notice.”

There’s many a satisfied Tracey Concrete customer who can testify to that.
