Dan’s your man

25 Apr , 2019

Dan Nolan Plant Hire in Co Wexford has developed an excellent reputation for itself through three generations of Plant Hire. Irish Tractor & Agri caught up with the man himself recently to find out how business is going down in the Model County.

Dan Nolan is a busy man these days and the plan is to keep things that way right through 2019 down in Elton Grove, where the Nolan family has been carrying out its good work for generations now.

Dan Nolan Plant Hire offers its customers some superb products and services and it has been a major reason why clientele continue to choose them first ahead of other local competitors.

Tractor & trailer hire, dumper hire, fuel transport, mini-digger hire, JCB hire, power washing & tree hopping and gritting/snow clearing are the products and services that Dan Nolan Plant Hire has on offer and the equipment the company has is second to none.

For Dan, it’s really the name of the game in this line of work and he continues to invest in machinery year on year in order to meet clients’ satisfaction.

The man himself took time from an increasingly busy schedule to tell Irish Tractor & Agri all about the business.

“We’re based just in Elton Grove, Clohass, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford,” Dan explained.

“It’s a third generation company and it has been three generations of Dans as well. It started out as a Plant Hire and Haulage business and just grew as the years went on.

“Right now, we have three working and it’s still very much a family business.”

It’s a family business which has developed a glowing reputation for its work down through the years and the standards have certainly stayed excellent since.

In recent years, Dan has added tarring work to his list of services and it has taken off well, according to the company’s Managing Director.

“Basically, what we do here is provide all the services that our customers want really,” he said.

“It’s tractor and dump trailer work and we provide all drainage work and road making material. We’d be doing tarring as well now, so we have everything they want.”

That considered, it’s no surprise to hear that business is currently booming at Dan Nolan Plant Hire.

2018 has been an exceptional year for the company, with one firm in particular using its services over the past couple of months for its work in the capital.

“Business is very, very good, I have to say,” beamed Dan. “It’s the busiest time of the year for us right now. We’re all flat out here and I also have my two nephews – Jason and Darren Earle working here.

“We’re actually doing a good bit of work in Athlone at the moment. We would do a lot of work for Priority Construction – they’re based in Dublin – and I’d say that 60 per cent of our work at the moment is for them.

“After that it would be local farmers and, thankfully, we’ve been able to gain a lot of repeat business from them down through the years.”

Priority Construction is a leading civil engineering infrastructural contractor with bases both in Ireland and the UK. They have delivered medium and large scale infrastructural projects across all industries and Dan Nolan Plant Hire has kept a strong working relationship with the firm in recent times.

Strong relationships with customers have been the secret to the success for the Nolans through the decades, along with a continued focus on quality services and products.

“As I said, it’s a family thing,” Dan outlined. “My father worked in this business for years and I can honestly say that we give the best service.

“With us, it has always been about quality more than price and I think that’s a big part of the reason why our customers tend to choose us first. We’re grateful to our customers for the continued support down through the years.”

On the machinery end, Dan recently added a new Dooley low-loader and Dooley 18 ton dump trailer to the fleet down in Clohass to help meet customer demand ahead of the New Year. He also bought a new CASE IH PUMA 165 which he himself says “has been going very well” for them in these very busy times, so much so that he has another CASE bought for the new year from Cooney Furlong Machinery.

2019 will undoubtedly be about more of the same for Dan Nolan Plant Hire, as the company has experienced a busy past 12 months, particularly with the constant demand coming from Priority Construction.

The challenge for Dan and Co remains to keep on satisfying that demand for all customers and, if the formbook is anything to go by, they should have no problems going forward.
