Celebrating half a century

6 Feb , 2019

Diesel Engineering Services Ltd is a company which specialise in the diagnosis, repair and re-manufacturing of all types of fuel injection equipment. Managing Director Colin Courtney told Irish Tractor & Agri all about the Co Cavan-based company recently.

This year sees Diesel Engineering Services Ltd in Shercock, Co Cavan celebrating 50 years in existence and half a century on from its foundation the family tradition of quality service very much remains.

Colin was able to provide Irish Tractor & Agri with the lowdown on what his family’s business is all about when we caught up with him at the beginning of the summer.

“We’re based here on the Bailieborough Road in Shercock, Co Cavan and the company is 50 years established,” explained Colin.

“Right now we’re operating with eight staff and we have strong family involvement with myself, my uncle Michael and my father Brian is recently retired.

“We specialise in diagnostics, testing and repair of diesel fuel injection components and also provide servicing for turbo chargers. As well as that, we supply new genuine pumps and injectors at very competitive prices.

“The workshop is fully authorised by all of the major fuel injection system manufacturers. We’ve seen a large increase on the diesel end of things this year and business in general is good.”

To put it simply, Diesel Engineering Services Ltd is an independent company which specialises in the diagnosis, repair and re-manufacturing of diesel fuel pumps, injectors, fuel rails and turbo chargers.

They offer their clientele manufacturer authorised repairs for brands such as Bosch, Denso, Delphi, Siemens Continental VDO, Stanadyne and many more. This includes technologically advanced state-of-the-art common rail systems and electronic diesel control (EDC) systems for both cars and commercial vehicles.

Two years ago, the company invested heavily in training and equipment, adding the newly released Bosch CP4 repairs and test to our list of capabilities.

Bosch CP4 pumps fit a whole range of modern vehicles including Massey Ferguson, New Holland, , BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Porsche and more.

In the same year, Diesel Engineering Services Ltd launched Bosch Quality Scan repairs and testing, this capability gives customers peace of mind that they have received quality assurance of fully authorised repairs with genuine Bosch parts.

It’s a far cry from 50 years ago when Colin’s grandfather, Michael snr first founded the company, as it now offers next day nationwide and worldwide delivery and collection via DHL, UPS, and Nightline couriers.

As for Colin himself, he’s closing in on his first decade working with the firm and five years since taking over as its Managing Director.

“I started working with the company in 2004 and I’ve only recently taken charge in 2014 since my father retired.” he said.

“We’ve clients all throughout Ireland and the UK, as well as others throughout Europe, so we pretty much cover everywhere our clients want us to.

“We are also currently working on a new e-commerce website, set for release in Autumn 2018 which will hopefully bring us on even further in terms of ability to supply new and reconditioned units to Ireland and further afield.”

The Courtney family tradition of quality service remains to the present day with Michael Courtney’s son and grandson – Michael jnr and Colin – running the family business.

Throughout five decades in operation Diesel Engineering Services has evolved alongside the advances in diesel injection technology.

As technology has shifted from mechanical to electronic systems, the company’s technical expertise has evolved as well.

The current success and expertise of the company can be directly attributed to the experience and on-going investment – keeping the business in step with advances in the diesel industry, investing in technology and training with an underlying vision of providing a quality service.

Diesel Engineering Services Ltd has built a deserved reputation as the country’s leading diesel injection specialists, based on its total commitment to excellence – in both its products and in the comprehensive service to customers.

It had this commitment officially recognised in May 1998 when it became the first independent company in its field to gain IS EN ISO 9002 accreditation – a fitting tribute to the company in its 30th anniversary year.

A second large facility which garages the only commercially available chassis dynamometer or rolling road in Ireland. This 850BHP Dynamometer, together with a fully equipped, state of the art tune-up bay is invaluable in the diagnosis and repair of problems which allows Diesel Engineering Services Ltd to maximise engine performance of all cars, vans and commercial vehicles.

From its base along the Cavan-Monaghan border, the company is strategically placed to provide their sought after specialist service to both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Concluding, Colin outlined that a major part of the reason why clients of Diesel Engineering Services Ltd choose them first ahead of other competitors is because the company’s renowned “honesty and integrity”.

“We’re here with 50 years of experience and provide a good service with fully traceable authorised repairs. We use genuine parts and everything here is done by the book,” he stated.

“We very much base our business on honesty and integrity and, most importantly, what the customer needs.”
