A wealth of agricultural experience and knowledge

19 Oct , 2018

Born and reared on the family farm in Ballough, Lusk, Co Dublin, John White has been involved in agricultural contracting ever since leaving school at the age of 17. As he continues to deliver on the high standards he is renowned and respected for amongst his clients.

Backboned by a wealth of experience and knowledge of the agricultural industry, when farmers employ the services of John White, they can rest assured that all work will be completed to the high standard they expect.

He is recognised for his first-class service and reliability and can undertake a wide variety of works with no job too small.

In addition to supplying haylage, hay, silage and straw, John White Agricultural Contractor provides a full range of services which includes round baling, 8x4x3 square baling, ploughing, tilling and sowing corn, grass seeding, dung, compost spreading and spraying, to name but a few.

Operating within a 30-mile radius of his Lusk, Co Dublin address, John has built up a loyal customer base down through the years and his dedication to satisfying his customers’ needs remains the cornerstone on which his approach to contracting is built.

“I grew up on the family farm which is in Ballough, Lusk, Co Dublin,” he revealed in conversation with Irish Tractor & Agri. “I started doing a bit of contracting straight from school. I also worked in haulage for eight to 10 years before I went full-time into contracting. I started out doing just round baling at first but the business grew from there.

“I have two full-time employees (Tom Whelan and Ben Flynn) and my son Paraic, who is currently training to be an electrician, helps out at the weekends. Another son Sean also helps out during the school holidays. During the busy season, we employ extra people to get through the work.”

John – who ‘likes being out on the land’ – added: “I’m still farming growing crops and  I also keep cattle as well, bringing  them in as weanlings and finish them off.”

Country Crest of Lusk is one of many customers that can testify to the quality of John White Agricultural Contractors’ work. His services have proven to be a cost effective and useful alternative for many of their farming operations.

“I take great pride in providing a very good service, on time and reasonable rates. Country Crest is my biggest customer and they are a very good company to deal with. Other customers who I work for on a regular basis include Whites Farming Ltd and local farmers. I also supply haylage and straw all year round to Equestrian Centres which is something of a niche market while we have customers from as far as Donegal.

“The demand for hay is very good. We always get the hay into the shed as quickly as possible so our customers know they are getting good quality hay.”

Attention to detail and a policy of continually updating his extensive fleet of tractors and associated machinery are other key ingredients in their successful formula.

With a modern fleet of tractors and vast array of up-to-date equipment, from flat beds to tipping trailers to sprayers, ploughs, spreaders and balers, at his disposal, John can get to work as soon as possible to ensure those all-important deadlines are met. His hands-on approach ensures that work is carried out as efficiently and effectively as possible.

“We were very busy up to last October but then the work just died a death because of the weather. The weather is obviously the biggest challenge in this game, it can be difficult to get out into the field and get the work done at times. It was a bad spring so we’re playing catch up now.”

In his spare time, John is active in the National Ploughing Association and is currently chairman of the Dublin branch. He judges at county ploughing matches and is a steward at the National Ploughing Championship which will, once again, take place in Screggan, Tullamore, Co Offaly this year.

If it’s a professional service you are looking for at competitive rates, contact John for a quote or for any further questions you may have.

By utilising John White Agricultural Contractor’s services, farmers free up more time to concentrate on others areas of their farm and eliminate the need to invest large sums of money in equipment that they may only need a few times in a year.
