A company and brand you can trust

21 Oct , 2020

Martin Hanna & Partners Ltd has been a permanent fixture on the Down agricultural landscape since the late 1970s. Established by Martin Hanna, today his sons, Brian and Nigel, are continuing a proud family tradition which revolves around the tried and trusted Massey Ferguson brand.

Located in the heart of the Mourne County, Martin Hanna & Partners Ltd is a family owned and run business, that sells and repairs new and used tractors and combines, specialising in Massey Ferguson.

Initially, the business centred around repairing tractors for local farmers before evolving into dealing in used Massey Ferguson tractors and combine harvesters. Further expansion followed and now the company employs five people and operates out of a state-of-the-art workshop and stores approximately 7000sq ft in size.

In 2015 a limited company was registered and the following year a dealership for Massey Ferguson was awarded.

Brian Hanna is the first point of contact for the stores and parts as well as tractor sales (for both new and used MF tractors and combines) while Nigel oversees repairs and the workshop.

The one constant that has remained down through the years has been the Hanna family’s commitment to offering a quality, timely and value for money service to the local agricultural community, and the original ethos of Martin has been carried forward through the generations.

“Our father officially retired when changed to a limited company but he is still very much involved,” Brian – who has worked in the family business for the past 37 years since leaving school – informed Irish Tractor & Agri.

One of the world’s leading agricultural machinery brands, Massey Ferguson is a well-known and respected manufacturer worldwide. Martin Hanna Tractors is proud to be a Massey Ferguson dealer and supplier.

They maintain a diverse stock of both new and used MF tractors and other equipment at all times. All Massey Ferguson tractors, combines and agricultural machinery features the qualities of top reliability, comfort and performance with uncompromising standards.

Their stock list features a range of currently available new Massey Ferguson tractors and equipment as well as quality used machinery from a range of manufacturers.

The Hanna’s can also order from the full range of new Massey Ferguson machines and equipment and, subject to status, arrange finance through approved sources.

“We secured the Massey Ferguson agency four years ago in June 2016. Since then we’ve had a lot more work, less holidays and more headaches!” Brian quipped.

Joking aside, he added: “It wasn’t a major transition for us taking on the Massey Ferguson agency. We have always been into Massey Ferguson repairs. In fact, it’s where my father started –he served his apprenticeship with Harry Fergusons. So, you could say that we were always Massey Ferguson orientated.

“Massey Ferguson is a proven name in our area and have always enjoyed a big share of the local market. Amongst Massey Ferguson’s key selling points is good finance, a good warranty and a quality and reliable product.”

In addition, Martin Hanna & Partners Ltd run a fully equipped workshop supported by a large and comprehensive stores department and some of the latest diagnostic and computer equipment.

The stores department carries a selection of common parts for a wide range of models of Massey Ferguson tractors and combines as well as a general range of agricultural spares and components. They also have access to next day, and in some cases same day, supply of parts.

Work undertaken includes a full service and repair offering on a wide range of Massey Ferguson tractors as well as MF Combine Harvesters. They also offer an on-site or in-field call out service, particularly important during the busy harvest seasons.

The workshop is run by Nigel who is assisted by three fully trained full time mechanics who are very familiar with the range of equipment they work with.

When asked about the how the current economic climate was treating the company, Brian answered: “Things are quieter than they have been in previous years. Farming in general is a lot quieter this year so we have approached 2020 as a year of consolidation.

“We have expanded quite significantly in the last couple of years and, obviously, increased our stock levels quite a bit. We also now have two service vans out on the road. We have invested heavily in the business in the last three to four years so our aim now is consolidation.”
